Many times when I go into a grocery store, I know exactly what I'm looking for and then there are times when I wander and find some unusual things like these skulls. They were in the Halloween section at Kroger on W. Gray.

Pic Of The Day - 10.11.14 - Cher And Cher Alike
OutReach United had their annual fundraiser on Saturday evening. They always but on a fun event and this year's surprise was Cher! Actually, it was Tasha Kohl who looked like Cher that performed some of Cher's greatest hits.

Pic Of The Day - 10.10.14 - The Road Less Traveled
Friday night The Calvinator decided he wanted to go a different way for his stroll so we went down to Memorial Drive. It's not very often that we go that way but he was full of energy and ready to walk.
Pic Of The Day - 10.08.14 - Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
So how often do you get to meet the namesake of a store? I did on Wednesday and it was a pleasure to meet Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams. They were in H-town for an anniversary party benefiting Child Advocates.
I had never been in their store and was quite impressed with the collection.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 10.07.14 - This Used To Be My Playground
It was just like the old days. I made a quick trip to Dallas. Left IAH in the morning and was back late that evening.
I flew to Dallas to do a presentation and represent Legacy on a panel discussion at the TACHC Conference. It was being held at The Westin Galleria.
The Galleria has changed or I have changed. Either I romanticized it as being glitzy or it lost its glitz. It just didn't seem the way I remembered it.

Le Madeline is no longer at The Dallas Galleria so I ate at Luciano's. |
It's been a long time since I've eaten at a Friday's but when you're the victim of Dallas traffic, you take what you can get at DFW. |

Pic Of The Day - 10.06.14 - Ruth's Chris Revisted
I made a return trip to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and prior to eating dinner we had drinks at the bar. And...I found another Blue Dog! The glare kind of distorts it but I love it nonetheless.
Pic Of The Day - 10.05.14 - Skeleton Flamingos
I always think it's odd when I get on a freeway to go grocery shopping but I do love the HEB on I-10 @ Bunker Hill. And, I always find something interesting there. On Sunday, it was the skeleton flamingos and some interesting Dia de los Muertos decorations.

Pic Of The Day(s) - 10.04.14 - Blessing Of The Animals
The service included hymns and prayers and dog treats. Additionally, the priests walked to each individual animal and sprinkled them and their owner with holy water. The Calvinator wasn't so sure about that part of the ceremony and even the priest commented on The Calvinator's stare.
Pic Of The Day - 10.03.14 - LWI
I tease that I know what it is like to be a seat filler at The Academy Awards. I am often asked to attend various dinners around town and fill a seat and that was the case for Latin Women's Initiative luncheon. It was a very nice affair that included a fashion show. I was very impressed with the chicken Caesar salad served by The Junior League of Houston.
Pic(s) Of The Day - 10.02.14 - The Breakfast Club
The Texas Center For The Missing had a fun theme for their gala, The Breakfast Club. Breakfast was served for dinner and it was held at the Julia Ideson Building of the Houston Public Library.
Pic Of The Day - 10.01.14 - Like A Prayer
I love this display. It's at the Walmart on Yale in Houston. It reminds me of some of the churches I've visited. I have some special intentions that I'm praying for and purchased the appropriate candles.
There's quite a bit going on right now so this is definitely one day at a time.

Pic Of The Day - 09.30.14 - Sprucing Up
During the past few months, we've been working on the parking situation at Legacy's Montrose location. One of the final touches is the planting of shrubs and trees.

Pic Of The Day - 09.28.14 - Quiet Time
Every 4th Sunday of the month, I help distribute Holy Communion at St. Anne's. The EMs (Extraordinary Ministers) have to get there early to pick our spots. The few minutes before members of the congregation arrive and before the lights turn is one of favorite part of the day. It's dark and quiet. Sometimes the quiet is broken by the sound of a Metro bus on Westheimer. And sometimes, this quiet time, is the only quiet time I have.
Pic Of The Day - 09.26.14 - Raising Cane's
I love chicken tenders and life got much better on September 25 when Raising Cane's moved into the 'hood where my office is located. They only do chicken and they do it well. My one complaint is that they need to give you more Texas Toast but I can remedy that...I'll just order extra toast next time.
See You Later John
Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking at a Celebration of Life for John Danielson III. Unexpectedly, John passed away on September 13. There was a service on September 28 and it was very well attended. John touched many lives in Houston and the outpouring of condolences and the number of attendees was a testament to this.
The service yesterday was a smaller group of people and John's family was in attendance. They live in Washington State and were unable to be in Houston last week. It has been a difficult few months for the family. Their mother died a few months ago.
Yesterday's service coincided with National Vodka Day and at the service, wine and vodka were served. The room was adorned in Mardi Gras decorations. It was perfect for John.
I was able to get to know John when I joined the Mystery & Fantasy Mardi Gras Party. Also, he was always having meetings, parties and fundraisers at his home. He always greeted me with a big smile and a hug and always made sure that I had something to eat and drink.
John supported many organizations in Houston and I don't know if anyone will ever be able to determine the full impact he had on the city.
John will definitely be missed and leaves a void not only in my life but in the city of Houston.
Rest In Peace John.

Pic Of The Day - 09.25.14 - Margaritaville
I've been in an odd mood. People are sick. Two friends have recently died. I have a major change in my life on the horizon.
I was invited to Victory Fund Houston's Happy Hour and almost didn't go. At the last minute, a co-worker/friend convinced me to go and I committed to only one drink at Teala's which when it was all said and done amounted to 3. That's how I roll.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.23.14 - 12th Annual Luncheon
Legacy Community Health Services' 12th Annual Luncheon honored Martha Turner. Martha is a supporter and great ambassador for Legacy and well deserving of the honor.
These are a few photos I snapped inside The Corinthian.
This is the video that premiered highlighting the services that are offered at Legacy:
And here is the tribute video about Martha Turner:

Pic Of The Day - 09.22.14 - Dali
We had a gully washer. It came out of nowhere. I was waiting for it let up and snapped this photo. The water running on my windshield distorted all of the objects I was looking at and created this Dali-esque effect.
Pic Of The Day - 09.21.14 - The Fetish
In case you don't know this, I love shoes. I had a couple of coupons from DSW that I used to make this purchase.
P.S. The shoes are very comfortable.

Pic Of The Day - 09.20.14 - The Cranes
It's a good problem to have. Houston is a boom town again and there are cranes everywhere.
This picture doesn't quite capture what I wanted it to. I would probably have to get out of the car and in the street to capture the true the essence of the sky disappearing at this intersection.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.19.14 - The Corinthian
I love The Corinthian. It is now an event space that was a former bank. The lobby showcases some great architecture. We were there to do a walk-thru for Legacy's luncheon on September 23.
Pic Of The Day - 09.18.14 - Hispanic Heritage Month
It was a rainy day and I made my way to Rice University for breakfast with Houston Mayor Annise Parker. The occasion you ask? It was a breakfast for sponsors of the Hispanic Heritage Month. It was a nice gathering and it's always fun to see familiar faces and meet new people. It was also the first time I was in the Faculty Club at Rice University.
