As I See It - 01.06.16 - All hail the King (Cake)

January 6 marks the end of the Christmas Season. It's the 12th Day Of Christmas, The Epiphany, The Feast of The Three Kings, the beginning of Mardi Gras Season. And on this day, King Cake can officially be consumed.

This stack of cakes was spotted at Whole Foods on Kirby at Alabama.

It's a short season, so eat up!

This is one dense cake! It is a vegan carrot cake and this sucker is heavy and dense and scrumptious all at the same time!

Well...I was at Whole Foods on Sunday and saw it and it looked healthy and tasty. In my opinion, it needed some garlic or onion.

...Cake!

It's hard to believe that it took me so long to have my first piece of King Cake in the 2015 Mardi Gras Season. There I was, minding my own business as I am prone to doing, walking through Whole Foods on Kirby when I saw the display of cakes. I was hoping that they I wouldn't have to purchase a whole cake and could purchase a slice. Needless to say, I was happy that they had two individual slices and I only purchased one and two slices of pizza, milk, and bottled water.

There is more King Cake in my future! I can smell it!

Once again, I have found beauty in nature and this time it was in the parking lot of Whole Foods Market on Waugh.  Both of these trees are side by side but the colours are changing at their own speed.

It's Hatch chile season!  Everywhere I go, there are chiles being sold, roasted and put into recipes.  This is a pic of part of a bin at Whole Foods.

I saw this display of pineapples at Whole Foods at it made start humming a show tune.  Imagine that! And what show tune might that be?  A Pineapple For You.  If memory correctly serves me, it was a background song in the movie version of Cabaret.  Most stage productions will include it.

Amongst all of the SAD reminders, its nice to see Mardi Gras decorations.  I snapped this photo at Whole Foods and then snatched up a piece of King Cake.

Addictions

I know I have addictive behavior.  Shoes.  Clothes. Mardi Gras Beads.  Vodka.  Food.  Shopping at Nordstrom & Whole Foods Market.  It could also be that some of my behavior could be considered being stuck in a rut.  When all else fails for dinner ideas, I go to Whole Foods Market. 

So...once again, last night I went to Whole Foods Market on Waugh Drive and ended up just buying a slice of King Cake because I forgot I had some layered enchiladas (from Whole Foods Market) in the fridge at home.

Anyway...when I walked in I noticed that flowers seemed especially bright last night.  I'm sure it's the lighting and it's some retail trick to get people to buy flowers but anywho...these flowers really caught my eye last night.

And maybe it's just because it's that time of the year but they sort of look like they belong at a Mardi Gras party.
