Diva alert!!!!

There's been lots of stuff on the telly recently. I know. It's May. Sweeps month.

I didn't get to see all of the Barbara Walters interview on Oprah but what I did see is what I cared about. She gave the scoop on Star Jones and Rosie.

Barbara and I go back a long ways. You see...

When I was a mere child, my parents would turn on the telly in the morning while we were running around getting ready for school. It was always tuned into the Today Show. I didn't follow Barbara when she left to be co-anchor with Harry Reasoner on ABC News. I have watched many of her specials and I always liked her stories on 20/20. So of course I love it when she is on The View. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to read her book.

So now to the topic at hand. Well sorta.

Have you ever agreed to do something that sounded like a good idea but your gut was telling you don't do it? Well, the reason that I didn't finish watching Barbara on Oprah is because runnerOne wanted to go running and I lost track of time and ran out the door without setting the VCR to capture the last part of the interview.
runnerOne thought it would be fun to go trail running along the bayou. OK. Well, it poured down rain yesterday and let's just say it was a bit muddy and slippery back there in the woods. I have enough trouble trail running when it is dry. UGH!

I was losing my footing and hanging on to tree roots to keep from falling flat on my arse. He would get ahead of me and wait and then when I would catch up with him (because he would stop and wait) he would take off running again. UGH!

OK. So I get back to the house and I'm sweating like there is no tomorrow and Calvin needs to be walked and my shoes are caked in mud. So I wash off the shoes and take Calvin for his walk. I get back to the house and I'm still sweating.

So while I'm trying to cool off before I shower, I'm watching Entertainment Tonight. Mark Steines did an interview with Cher, Tina Turner and Oprah. AND...

Cher and Tina are going to be on Oprah on Thursday. YES! This Thursday. So...

Set your VCR, DVR, or Tivo. Leave work early. Stay home from work. Cancel all appointments It looks like it will be a show not to be missed.

SIDEBAR: I sent a text message to Kaye Sedilla who is still in Guadalajara. She said she never got the call from Oprah to participate in the interview and has cried herself to sleep many nights.

It's been awhile since I've been attacked by Tsetse flies. Not sure what is going on.

I think part of it has to do with being awakened at 630a on Sunday morning. You see...

I got to bed later than planned on Saturday night. Then around 620a The Calvinator started barking and barking and barking. So I got up to see what's going on (and I say, "hey, hey, hey..."). There are cars everywhere (that weren't there went I went to bed). One big ass pickup truck has blocked AttyHou's driveway. Behind it is a big ass Hummer that is almost blocking my driveway. Cars are parked on the opposite side of the street facing the wrong way.

So The Calvinator and I go for a walk to do some investigating. It seems that one of my neighbors was havibg an after hours party. I should have put on some cocktail attire and joined them.

I never took a nap to make up for my sleep deficiency and I fell asleep watching Brothers & Sisters. I'll have to watch it from the ABC website I guess. I wanted to see whatherface sing Believe by Cher.

Speaking of Believe...

Part of the lyrics are: Do you believe in life after love? Well...two bloggers that I don't personally know but I feel like I know broke up yesterday. I found that out first thing this morning. On the outside they seemed to have the perfect relationship plus they are both HOT! One of them broke the news this morning and the other one has password protected his blog.

So you see bois and gurrllls the blogosphere is the real world. I really hope they can work this out.

Anywho. I'll just add them to the list of people that I thought would never break up.

I know it's almost 600p CST but I think I need to go to bed. Well, The Calvinator needs to be walked first but maybe after that.

Sentimental Sunday

Former Houstonian & Now Bostonian Greg has been in town with Sean. The Fabulous Miss Jolie Shay (TFMJS) had a small dinner party on Friday night so that some of us could spend some time with the boys.
I took them to IAH this morning for their return flight to BOS. It was a beautiful day to be outside so I loaded up The Cal Mobile with The Calvinator and off we went. I changed out the cds in The Cal Mobile and put in some compilations that I made. They are a part of The Contessa Collection.
  • Contessa Without A Country
  • Cocktails For Two: The Contessa Has A Guest
  • The Contessa Needs Another Cocktail
This whole collection was inspired after spending a few days with Calgary Ken in Calgary. You see...

Several years ago when I went to visit Calgary Ken, Calgary Ken made a wonderful dinner for a few of us. The plan was to go out after dinner and visit a few clubs. Well...one bottle of wine lead to another and then we each started going through his cd collection and playing one song that we liked and one song lead to another and well...

I remember waking up under the dining room table and Ken was next to me. Brian and Joe had gone to bed at some point. Ken was out of wine; his cd collection was a mess.

So I listened to these songs today while driving around and taking The Calvinator to Memorial Park. There are a few songs that I just really *heart* that are a part of The Contessa Collection.

The first one is You're So Vain by Carly Simon. I did change the words one night for AttyHou. Instead of You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavot... I changed it to You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself go by... because he did. He actually had two eyes in the mirror as he flexed in the mirror of a hotel foyer.

Then there is The Way Of Love. Kaye Sedilla keeps saying that if she ever does a cabaret show full of torch songs this will definitely be on the bill. In this video, Cher looks flawless and she really shows her range.

There are too many songs to list but others include: Being Boring; Something Stupid; When October Goes; Kissing A Fool; Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. Quite an eclectic collection of music.

While I'm on the subject of music...

Did you see Tina Turner with Beyonce on The Grammy Awards? Of course they were introduced by Cher! Does it get any better than that? Beyonce and Tina performed Proud Mary. Tina wasn't moving as fast as she normally does but that's ok. She was still in her stiletto heels!

The last time I saw Tina perform live was in October of 2000. She performed at the place that is now Lakewood Church formerly known as Compaq Center. She did an outstanding performance. That night Joe Cocker was her opening act. No one around me knew anything about Joe Cocker so I finally said, "Do you remember the opening song from Wonder Years? That was him!" Young ones I tell ya!
OK. Back to Sentimental Sunday. I reconnected with a couple of West Coast friends this past week. We had lost touch for awhile. If the writer's strike ever ends, one of them will be back on the telly.
Also ran into Midtown/Montrose David at Memorial Park on Saturday. So it was a good week to catch up with friends.

Cher (I guess stranger things have happened.)

'Entertainment Tonight' sat down with Cher yesterday in Los Angeles in an interview to air Friday, February 8th.

Cher told ET about her relationship with Tom Cruise, "It was a long, long time ago and neither one of us ever talked about it and I don't know why. When we were together he was such a private person. He always has been until lately. He didn't mention it and I didn't mention it. I loved him though, he was amazing. Now it's hard for me to look at this person and this press. How many times can I watch him jumping up and down on Oprah's couch?"

On why they broke up, "It was after Risky Business and right before The Color of Money. I couldn't go to Chicago and that was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back."

She goes on to say she still feels close to ex-husband Sonny Bono, who passed away in 1998, "I always kind of feel him in a strange way. I've got these lights in my bedroom and they go on and off for no reason and I always think it's him trying to piss me off."

Oh no not I. I will survive...

Nope. That song isn't about me.

I haven't had any recent comments about the Titanic. Don't worry...it's been on the radar screen; still floating along.

Received a Morse Code message today. People have been thrown overboard; a bunch of people. Did you know that Tonya Harding is a passenger? All of this has made me think of one of my favorite sayings. It has been said that in the event of a nuclear war, two things will survive: cockroaches and Cher. To that I will now add and Tonya Harding.
