As I See It - 01.01.16 - Happy New Year

I've decided to stop calling it Pic Of The Day. Why? Well, when I take a photo, what I see in the viewfinder is what I see and how I see it. Or...when I screen capture something (a quote, a photo, etc.), I may be seeing someone's opinion that I share. I'll still label pic of the day but will do away with pics of the day labels.

So...what did I see on January 1? I saw a bundle of balloons at Kroger on Studemont. It screamed Happy New Year!

Kroger was just one of many stops for the day: FIT; Fiesta; H-E-B; a New Year Day's brunch; DSW; and Sports Authority. I so needed to do laundry because I was heading back to Ft. Worth on Sunday but I just-didn't-have-the-energy after I made a batch of Jambalaya and Posole. the crib smelled really good

I think I have determined that I really enjoy spending New Year Day with friends more than I ever enjoyed spending New Year's Eve out and about. There is some sort of faux expectation that accompanies New Year's Eve. I have a hard time explaining it. Plus, it's never fun starting the new year with a hangover.

Pic Of The Day - 08.09.15 - Lemonade

Kroger had a bright display of flowers in their floral department. The bouquets were named Lemonade and with that pop of pink it should have been Pink Lemonade.

And I see this. I'm not sure what it is but it's pretty.

Pic Of The Day - 05.22.15 - Frost Paws

From time to time, it can be difficult to find Frosty Paws. Sometimes they can be found in the novelty ice cream section at the grocery store. Sometimes they have their own small freezer in the dog food section. Sometimes they cannot be found at all. However, the Kroger on Buffalo Speedway has designated half of a full-sized freezer for Frosty Paws. They're a bit pricier at Kroger but anything for The Calvinator.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 05.14.15 - Boomtown

Texas has a new Buc-ee's and I believe it is the largest one yet. So...I happened to be in Baytown on Thursday and decided to stop at the new Buc-ee's. It is HUGE!

I really never get to visit the location in Waller because I always have The Calvinator with me and I don't like to leave him in the car for too long. So on Thursday I meandered through the aisles and found things that I didn't know existed and needed.
.
And speaking of Baytown, they have a really big Academy store there and it looks like a mega-Kroger is being built. And to add to this, they have a big Starbucks that is really nice. Baytown/Boomtown.

Pic Of The Day - 12.18.14 - Humpty Dumpty

I had a great fall on Wednesday. And no, I don't mean as in winter, spring, summer, fall. I fell down and I fell hard.  You see...

I went to the Kroger on Studemont and to avoid the man ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, I parked on the west side of the parking lot.  When I exited, I went down the wrong aisle to get to my car so I decided to cut over.  When I did, my foot caught the end of a cement parking barrier and well, I fell.

And I guess I said, "Shit!" so loud, it caught the attention of the teenager who was in the lot gathering stray grocery carts. I started getting up just as he was approaching. At that point I had already picked up everything that had fallen out of the bags. It hurt but it really hurt when I got home and still had to walk The Calvinator.

So why this picture of a bottle of Coppola wine?  You see...

This bottle was in one of the bags that I dropped in the parking lot. It didn't break. And now, I'm afraid to open it because it must have some sort of special powers.

Pic Of The Day - 10.12.14 - Shopping From A to Z

Many times when I go into a grocery store, I know exactly what I'm looking for and then there are times when I wander and find some unusual things like these skulls.  They were in the Halloween section at Kroger on W. Gray.

Pic(s) Of The Day -05.24.14 - Out With The Old

and in with the used. My refrigerator died a slow death. It was to the point where I was a afraid to leave anything in it because it might spoil. Through the magic of Facebook I found out that a friend had one for sale so I bought it! On Saturday I realized it was a bit on the sparse side so I went to Kroger to make groceries. It is slowly filling up!

SAD Remnants

"There's got to be a morning after..."

This was the scene at Kroger on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

Pic Of The Day - 02.13.14

Even though this is a SAD (Single Awareness Day) photo, I like it because of the color.  Believe it or not, I didn't use and Instagram filter on it.  You see...

I had to run to the grocery store to buy The Calvinator some Rachel Ray dog food to mix with his Blue Buffalo kibbles.  It was just at sunrise and the sky was a nice mix of orange, pink & blue.  Hence, the pink tone on the SAD tent.

Attack Of The SAD Balloons

So...I go walking in to Kroger on Studemont to pick up some dog food for The Calvinator.  It was late in the evening and I had been at a meeting so I was a bit tired.  I go walking in and there was a bevy of SAD balloons that accosted me in the entry way!  Even Tweety Bird is on the SAD conspiracy!  I can't get away from the reminders.  I'll be happy when Single Awareness Day is over.

Pic Of The Day - 02.08.14

I walked into Kroger and was immediately struck by the number of balloon ribbons hanging over my head.  Judging by the number of balloons and the special area set up for dipping strawberries in chocolate and the big tent outside for flowers and the number of heart shaped boxes of chocolates it looks like they're hoping to be busy on Single Awareness Day.

Pic Of The Day - 02.05.13

So I was walking into Kroger and saw these. Always wondered what they are called.  Forsythia.  That's what they're called.

Photo Journal: January 13, 2010

On Wednesday I made a stop at Legacy Southwest Clinic. It is located in the Gulfton/Sharpstown area of Houston. This part of Houston is very diverse and could be a mini-United Nations.

Rather than hop on the freeway to go back to the office, I took the surface road. I snapped a pic of this Kroger Grocery Store because I have never seen another Kroger whose signage was out of the norm.

Do The Right Thing?

On Saturday I went to Kroger (not the Disco Kroger on Montrose) to make groceries. I needed to buy some chicken soup, cold medicine, tissues and anything else I thought I might need to get me through this period of illness (doesn't that sound dramatic?).

What I discovered is that the soup was on sale, 3/$5.00. It was quite the bargain. So I loaded up on soup and by the time I added that to the hand basket, I had well over 20 items...oh, the tortilla chips were also on sale so I had to load up on those and they wouldn't fit in the basket. Anywho...

Knowing that I have more than 15 items, I get into a full-service line because the Express Lane and the Scan-It-Yourself Lane have signs that state, 15 Items Or Less.

So I'm standing there with a full basket and bags of tortilla chips in the other hand. A manager of the store walks over to me and tells me to follow her. She is taking me to one of the Express Lanes. I tell her that I have more than 15 items and she says, "If it is all in the basket, you are fine." (...but it wasn't all in the basket.) So I follow her to an Express Lane that has a line but the Scan-It-Yourself Lane has a few open kiosks so I high-tail it over to one of those and proceed to scan my 22 items.

I did keep an eye on the whereabouts of the manager because if another customer decided to go all Whitney Houston On Crack on me for having more than 15 items, I was going to blame it on the manager.
