New Year; New Restaurant

Well, the restaurant isn't all that new but it is new to me. One of my goals has been to try different restaurants. SaltAir has been open for awhile and it is right around the corner from The Calvinator's Upper Kirby Crib. Pookie and I had not seen each other in awhile and finally found a day that we could both do lunch. He had never been to SaltAir and neither had I so it worked out.

This looks like a mound of food and it was. Underneath the yummy shrimp was a pile of yummy Freedom Fries French Fries. Not only did I not eat the whole pile of fries, I chose NOT to take them home with me.

Pookie and I both agreed that the food was good and we'll be back.

As I See It - 03.15.16 - Indika

I'm not big on Indian food. However, I decided to give it a whirl at Indika and actually enjoyed my meal.

As I See It - 02.22.16 - Once Again, Back At la griglia

Monday at lunch found me back again at la griglia for a meeting. I decided to be adventurous and try the sesame crusted tuna. Normally when I eat tuna, it is out of a can and added to salad or it is the salad put between two pieces of bread. There was no need to do that with these pieces of tuna. The meal was yummy.

As I See It - 01.31.16 - Guess Who's Coming To Brunch

Just to be on the safe side, this is how my day started.

But before I could get on with my day, I had to return to the scene of the crime Limelight to help clean up. Included in the trash were Mardi Gras beads and people's dignity.

From Limelight, I went to the home of Gerard P. who co-hosted a group of people for HRC's Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. It was a fun time with nine other people, two who were new to me.

After a lovely brunch and good discussion, we made our way to Brent and Tommy's where all of the guess gathered for dessert and more cocktails. A beautiful home. A beautiful day. Beautiful people. A good cause.

As I See It - 01.30.16 - Animal Kingdom

It was the return of the Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Party but before I could get my day started, I ran into these Polish treats at Kroger on Buffalo Speedway. One word: YUM!

This annual "party for a party's sake" was again, much fun. We had just under 1200 people so the crowd was manageable. Nothing like the 1500+ a few years ago.

In a Facebook message exchange with JD Arnold, I suggested he play some David Bowie...and he did...and he one of the songs was my favorite Let's Dance.

We've already set the date for next year but I'm not willing to reveal it just yet. Just remember...2016 was a short Mardi Gras season...2017 will be a bit longer.

As I See It - 01.15.16 - Variety is the spice of life

I've come to the conclusion that like donuts, no two King Cakes are alike. One of my co-workers brought this to our office and yes, before you ask, it was yummy!

As I See It - 01.02.16 - Me gotta go pole the pirogue down the bayou

So...the Jambalaya set and I decided this was as a good a night as any to have it for dinner. I must say it was yummy!

I've portioned it out and froze it so that I can enjoy it for awhile.

Pic Of The Day - 12.30.15 - Stepping Out Of The Box And Into The Bao

For over a year, I have wondered, "Is Fat Bao any good?" I had a hankering for Asian food but there isn't really anything fast on the way home and if I went to some place fast, then I have to go out of my way which offsets going to some place fast. Makes sense, right?

So...on my way to some place fast but out of the way, I decided to go to Fat Bao which is next door to The Calvinator's Crib. It took me a few minutes to figure out the menu but then I discovered the lunch special. I ended up with chicken and pork belly and homemade potato chips. #notbad

Pic Of The Day - 12.26.15 - Hey, Hey, Good Lookin'

"Whatcha got cookin'?"

I spent the morning in the kitchen preparing lasagna. I cheated on some of the ingredients because I wasn't cooking in my own kitchen and had to improvise.

So...when it was done, I snapped this photo. It sort of looks like a pan of enchiladas.

Pic Of The Day - 12.20.15 - More Food

Yes, that is another brisket sandwich and homemade potato chips from Buc-ee's. I had to go to Baybrook Mall to get Helen's iPad and then Roni wanted a blanket from Buc-ee's and so what is another 8 miles south. Long story short, I ended up in Texas City at the stroke of noon on Sunday when everyone wanted to buy beer. End of story.

Pic Of The Day - 12.19.15 - Stuffed

That's how I felt when the day was over.

It started with a group of us meeting at Gallery Furniture and then making our way to deliver furniture, clothes and gifts to a family. It was a collaborative effort between Legacy, Mental Health Association-Houston and Gallery Furniture.

After that little jaunt, I decided to reward myself with a Bellini, shrimp po' boy and shortbread cookies from Paulie's even though I knew I'd be having dinner with Margo at Harold's that evening.

Yes, I was well fed.

Pic Of The Day - 12.11.15 - I Scream, You Scream

...because we're excited that New Orleans Ice Cream is starting to appear on store shelves in the frozen section at Kroger! I don't remember trying this flavor earlier in the year.

Pic Of The Day - 12.10.15 - 'Tis The Season

...to eat stuff that you normally wouldn't eat any other time of the year because you can't find it. Oh, and if you can find the Apple Spice version of these, beware! They're addictive.

Pic Of The Day - 12.08.15 - Sliders

Sliders are like people. No two sliders are alike and such was the case when I stopped at Urban Eats and ordered Southern Chicks. I had never thought of a slider being served on Texas Toast but obviously someone did. And...yes, they were yummy!

Pic Of The Day - 11.09.15 - Dead Battery

It's not how you want to start a Monday: #deadbattery

So...I made the best of a bad situation and bummed some rides until the car was ready. At lunch, friend Lynne dropped me off at The Calvinator's Crib while she ran an errand and then we met up at Luna Pizzeria.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 11.06.15 - Day And Night

It was another full but fun-filled day.

Lunch was a birthday celebration and a thank you to a friend. We met at ur place which happens to be Del Frisco's Grille on Kirby. And this was the perfect sized banh mi.

Later that evening, I was at the Royal Sonesta for Bo's Place Una Notte in Italia. It's always a fun evening because the clothes are from Festari for Men and the male models bring their own cheering squads.

Pic Of The Day - 11.05.15 - Deja Vu All Over Again

I was listening to the morning news on KPRC-Channel 2 when I heard them say that it was National Doughnut/Donut you say, "potato". I say, "vodka" Day. Wasn't there a NDD earlier in the year? Well, yes there was and it seems that everyone wants to celebrate the doughnut/donut so there are two!

And, the leasing off at Upper Kirby apartments provided donuts/doughnuts to the residents.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 10.23.15 - Land vs. Sea

I don't know who Smith & Wollensky are but they have good food. I didn't opt for beef on this outing; cold seafood fit the bill.

Pic Of The Day - 10.16.15 - The Unfortunate Cookie

I don't eat at P.F. Chang's very often because it is sort of out of my way. So when giving the opportunity, I took it. Lunch ended with a fortune cookie that didn't have a fortune in it. Time to go back to bed?
