As I See It - 02.07.16 - Better Late Than Never

And so, I was a bit tardy in decorating The Calvinator's Crib for Mardi Gras. I never put up the bunting or wreath but I did pull together a little tableau and threw a hat on The Calvinator. And all of this was done while I was trying to pack for my trip to The Big Easy. To round out the day, I ate some New Orleans Ice Cream.

As I See It - 02.06.16 - MSIO Ball III

It was the evening of Mystic Society of Isis and Osiris Ball III at the Power Center. This event is part Krewe of Olympus-Texas ball with a some Mystery & Fantasy Mardi Gras Party elements. Whatever it is, it was a fun time at The Power Center!

As I See It - 02.05.16 - Meeting with a legend

From time to time, I have the opportunity to meet people who are legends and such was the case on Friday when I found myself in he corner office at Martha Turner Sotheby's International Realty. I had been in that office before but it was for a filming. And, I had some other encounters with Martha but this time it was a real meeting. The more I get to know Martha, the more I want to be Martha!

Prior to the beginning of the meeting, she offered us refreshments and I was presented with this napkin...which I kept! It's my own Martha Turner momento.

As I See It - 02.04.16 - My neighbor's home

I was invited to a cocktail party at the home of one of my neighbor's. I've strolled past it many times but had never been invited in until this night. Little did I know he has all kind of cool art in the domicile!

As I See It - 02.03.16 - Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation

Good people doing good things for others intersected when a check was presented to Legacy Community Health from Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation to support the Little Readers program. Without the support of some many people, we wouldn't be able to put books in the hands of kids who don't have access to books.

It wasn't until we started this program, that I was made aware of the fact that in under-served communities, there is only 1 book for every 300 children. When you think about it...if you have to choose between putting food on the table or buying a book, food will always win out.

As I See It - 02.02.16 - The Postman Always Rings Twice

It had been a couple of days since I checked the mail and when I did, my new bow tie was awaiting me and my Mardi Gras guide was also there!

As I See It - 02.01.16 - And yet, more alcohol

Let the drinking continue!

A work meeting at 4:30PM gives me carte blanche to drink, so I did because that's what you do at la griglia!

As I See It - 01.31.16 - Guess Who's Coming To Brunch

Just to be on the safe side, this is how my day started.

But before I could get on with my day, I had to return to the scene of the crime Limelight to help clean up. Included in the trash were Mardi Gras beads and people's dignity.

From Limelight, I went to the home of Gerard P. who co-hosted a group of people for HRC's Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. It was a fun time with nine other people, two who were new to me.

After a lovely brunch and good discussion, we made our way to Brent and Tommy's where all of the guess gathered for dessert and more cocktails. A beautiful home. A beautiful day. Beautiful people. A good cause.

As I See It - 01.30.16 - Animal Kingdom

It was the return of the Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Party but before I could get my day started, I ran into these Polish treats at Kroger on Buffalo Speedway. One word: YUM!

This annual "party for a party's sake" was again, much fun. We had just under 1200 people so the crowd was manageable. Nothing like the 1500+ a few years ago.

In a Facebook message exchange with JD Arnold, I suggested he play some David Bowie...and he did...and he one of the songs was my favorite Let's Dance.

We've already set the date for next year but I'm not willing to reveal it just yet. Just remember...2016 was a short Mardi Gras season...2017 will be a bit longer.
