Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.10.15 - USCA

I awakened on my birthday to fluttering of sounds on my phone. It was notifications from Facebook that people were wishing me a Happy Birthday. Some of you may think it's odd that I would opt to spend my birthday out of town but as I've mentioned before, birthdays are no big deal to anymore. I might throw a double nickel party next year. Maybe. Maybe not.

I was in DC for the United States Conference on AIDS. Unexpectedly, I ended up in the same room with Kate Burton and Nancy Pelosi and an $18 sandwich.

Prior to eating my $18 sandwich, I'm not sure I knew who Kate Burton is but it turns out she is the daughter of Richard Burton and she is on Scandal. She was there to present Nancy Pelosi with The Elizabeth Taylor Legacy Award. Unbeknownst to me, Nancy had taken on the fight against HIV/AIDS early in her career when she joined the U.S. House of Representatives. In fact, they showed a photo of a young Nancy Pelosi with Elizabeth Taylor!

Nancy was met with skepticism by her House colleagues. She also stated that by now she thought there would be a cure. She looks forward to a time when the disease is eradicated. “It will be relegated to a museum — people will take their children and say, ‘There was a time when HIV… invaded our community, but we overcame it.’”

Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.09.15 - Airport Life

1st photo: This is the end of Terminal E at IAH. It's very grand and sort of reminds me of the former Greater Southwest Airport in the DFW area.

2nd photo: I love this view. I never get tired of it. This is what I saw when I landed at ReaganNational Airport in Washington, D.C.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.08.15 - Ribbon Cutting

We gathered at Legacy Southwest for t6he ribbon cutting ceremony for our first Reading Corner. A few months ago, Legacy Community Health started an initiative to make sure every child between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old received a book with every well child visit.

There is a direct correlation between a child's ability to read and their health. Additionally, in many under-served communities there is only 1 book per 300 children. As I have told people, if a family has a limited income and needs to decide between putting food on the table or purchasing a book, the decision is going to be food. I'm proud that we're helping put books in the hands of children.

Pic Of The Day - 09.07.15 - The Times They Are A Changin'

The Calvinator and I moved into the Upper Kirby/Alabama Place neighborhood last November. Since then, there has been quite a bit of demolition going on and new construction happening.

I guess you could we're hip and newness follows us.

Pic Of The Day - 09.06.15 - Old Friends

You will recall that last year during Labor Weekend, I saw Betty Buckley in The Old Friends.

This past weekend was spent getting caught up with friends. Laure and I worked together at Texas Wesleyan and I met Lyndon at Gershwin's in Dallas many years ago. Both were in Houston for different reasons. Margo, who lives in Houston but who I haven't seen since July, joined me at an Astros game. With all three, it was a matter of picking up where we left off.

So why the picture of Eggs Benedict with Crabcakes? Lyndon and his husband Chris and I, met for brunch at Ousie's Table and since I haven't done a food photo in awhile, I figure, "Why not?"

Pic Of The Day - 09.05.15 - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting

The Astros played the Twins and they lost but they put up a good fight toward the end of the game. And for me, it was a fun evening with Margo and catching up while drinking beer!

Pic Of The Day - 09.04.15 - TC's

ERSICSS put on another fun fundraiser on Friday. I like TC's because it is a neighborhood bar. Thank you ERSICSS for everything you do!

Pic Of The Day - 09.03.15 - I Get The Hint

As I was getting ready for the work day, I noticed that The Calvinator had tumped his bowl over in an attempt to let me know it was empty. Really? Like I don't feed him before I leave his crib? #dramaqueen #dramadog

And in case you were wanting another cloud photo, here you go.

Pic Of The Day - 09.02.15 - "Lord Take Me Downtown, I'm Just Lookin' For Some Tush"

Another view of clouds from my office building. I love the blue sky, white clouds, storm clouds and of course the skyline.

And then this happened. This photo popped up on my Instagram feed. It's Derek Yates with his photo for Hump Day.

So when you take the first photo and add it to the second photo you get this:

Pic Of The Day - 09.01.15 - Stormy Weather

It's not a monsoon. It's not a tropical storm. It's much needed rain.

This was my view from the office of the storm clouds.

Pic Of The Day - 08.31.15 - Monday, Monday

The day started with a Mimosa and ended with a beer. Somewhere in between I saw this fabulous table, ate at Little Bigs, and attended a day long meeting.

Pic Of The Day - "There's A Hole In This Cake."

Nothing Bundt Cake had really good cakes and yesterday for dessert we had mini-bundt cakes. It was post-birthday celebration for Aunt Lulu and a pre-birthday celebration for Joey and me.
