As I See It - 02.07.16 - Better Late Than Never

And so, I was a bit tardy in decorating The Calvinator's Crib for Mardi Gras. I never put up the bunting or wreath but I did pull together a little tableau and threw a hat on The Calvinator. And all of this was done while I was trying to pack for my trip to The Big Easy. To round out the day, I ate some New Orleans Ice Cream.

As I See It - 01.24.16 - Brother Sun, Sister Moon

It's all about timing. The sun was rising in the east and the moon was still in the western sky when I snapped this photo.

As I See It - 01.18.16 - Evening sky

I just happened to look outside when it was time to walk The Calvinator, and I saw this sunset. No two sunsets are ever the same.

Pic Of The Day - 12.30.15 - Stepping Out Of The Box And Into The Bao

For over a year, I have wondered, "Is Fat Bao any good?" I had a hankering for Asian food but there isn't really anything fast on the way home and if I went to some place fast, then I have to go out of my way which offsets going to some place fast. Makes sense, right?

So...on my way to some place fast but out of the way, I decided to go to Fat Bao which is next door to The Calvinator's Crib. It took me a few minutes to figure out the menu but then I discovered the lunch special. I ended up with chicken and pork belly and homemade potato chips. #notbad

Pic Of The Day - 12.28.15 - Weather Dog

The Calvinator loves cold weather. Here he is facing north with his snout into the breeze...just in case you were wondering which way the wind was blowing.  The front that caused bad weather in the north Texas area, caught up with us in Houston on Sunday evening.

Pic Of The Day - 12.07.15 - National Cotton Candy Day

Until now, I never knew there was a National Cotton Candy Day but the staff at Upper Kirby knew about. So...whilst out on our lunch stroll, The Calvinator and I stopped in and pick up some free cotton candy.

Pic Of The Day - 11.09.15 - Dead Battery

It's not how you want to start a Monday: #deadbattery

So...I made the best of a bad situation and bummed some rides until the car was ready. At lunch, friend Lynne dropped me off at The Calvinator's Crib while she ran an errand and then we met up at Luna Pizzeria.

Pic Of The Day - 11.05.15 - Deja Vu All Over Again

I was listening to the morning news on KPRC-Channel 2 when I heard them say that it was National Doughnut/Donut you say, "potato". I say, "vodka" Day. Wasn't there a NDD earlier in the year? Well, yes there was and it seems that everyone wants to celebrate the doughnut/donut so there are two!

And, the leasing off at Upper Kirby apartments provided donuts/doughnuts to the residents.

Pic Of The Day - 10.14.15 - Morning At The Crib

Another stunning view of the sunrise in Houston. Can't see it? Well, that is because this photo was taken facing west. What you see is the leftovers of the night sky with the sunlit sky in the east reflecting in the buildings of Greenway Plaza.

Pic Of The Day - 09.22.15 - Sunset

It's true. No two sunsets are the same.

Once the weather cools off, maybe I'll be able to enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy the sunsets.

Pic Of The Day - 08.27.15 - Swag

There was a Yappy Hour at Upper Kirby on National Dog Day. I was late getting home and was unable to take The Calvinator. However, on Thursday, the management staff bequeathed him with a swag bag for Post-National Dog Day.

Pic Of The Day - 08.16.15 - The Beginning Of The End

I took a nap and was awakened by the sound of thunder. It was all OK until the power went out around Richmond & Kirby. It stayed out for about an hour and The Calvinator and I took the steps up and down so that he could go for a stroll.

The power came back on and then went off again. This time it was for about 15 minutes. It messed up my evening because I couldn't cook or watch Big Brother.

It also brought back memories of Hurricane Ike.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 08.15.15 - Strolling With The Calvinator

There is an old apartment complex that backs up to The Calvinator's Upper Kirby Crib. All of the residents had to be out by July 31, 2015. The complex will be torn down and a new development will go up. The property has an orange tree, crepe myrtle and this bougainvillea.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 08.07.15 - Not Today Satan! Not Today!

This is NOT how you want to be awakened to meet the neighbors.

The fire alarm in the building went off at 1:08AM. At first I thought it was the alarm clock but I soon realized it was the fire alarm. It even awakened The Calvinator.

So...I went out to the balcony to determine if there was fire/smoke beneath me, above me or to the side of me. Negative.

Then, I went to the door to feel for heat. Negative.

Then, I slowly opened the door to smell for smoke. Negative.

Then, I put on my shoes, grabbed by billfold, keys, two phones, the leash and The Calvinator and down we went, four flights of stairs. Before we entered the stairwell, it did occur to me that this could be an alarm to notify of us of an active shooter in the building. The other thought that occurred to me was that maybe a gunman/gunwoman pulled the alarm to get people in the hallways and stairwells and start shooting at us.

I didn't grow with that mentality. When a fire alarm sounded it meant it was either a fire drill or a fire. Growing up it NEVER would have occurred to me that someone could be attempting to kill people. It made me sad that this is the environment we live in.

So...The fire truck was approaching as we exited. It was only a matter of minutes.

And it turns out, some guy was trying to get his girlfriend's attention and pulled the alarm. #notcool #childish

Pic(s) Of The Day - 08.01.15 - Sunrise On White Linen Night

It was an unusual sunrise. The moon could still be seen as the sunrise was reflecting in the buildings of Greenway Plaza.

Saturday night welcomed back White Linen Night. Houses throughout The Heights celebrated the evening.

Pic Of The Day - 07.05.15 - Both Sides Now

This is the Pappadeaux's parking lot view of The Calvinator's Crib.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 07.04.15 - Independence Day

I used July 4 to display a flag and decorate The Calvinator's balcony. He allowed a couple of minutes to photograph him with his most recent headpiece.

One the surprises I received was being able to see fireworks from River Oaks Country Club.
