As I See It - 03.14.16 - At The Vet

It was time for The Calvinator's annual checkup and he needed some shots. While he was being weighed and having a blood draw, I was left to my own devices in the exam room. I noticed that one of the walls was covered in artwork with an animal theme. It was sort of like a micro-museum.

This is The Calvinator. I call him my Boogie Bear and at times people have said that he looks like a bear. I've been told to never "poke the bear" and especially when the bear is asleep.

Monday consisted of dealing with PPS (Post Party Syndrome) and getting The Calvinator back into a routine. And that consisted of taking him for a stroll during lunch. And, we noticed that his crib had new flowers.

I used July 4 to display a flag and decorate The Calvinator's balcony. He allowed a couple of minutes to photograph him with his most recent headpiece.

One the surprises I received was being able to see fireworks from River Oaks Country Club.

From time to time, it can be difficult to find Frosty Paws. Sometimes they can be found in the novelty ice cream section at the grocery store. Sometimes they have their own small freezer in the dog food section. Sometimes they cannot be found at all. However, the Kroger on Buffalo Speedway has designated half of a full-sized freezer for Frosty Paws. They're a bit pricier at Kroger but anything for The Calvinator.

Thursday was Red Nose Day. This is a day designated to raise awareness and money for children living in poverty. The movement actually began in Great Britain. This was the first time for the event to take place in the United States. Click here to learn more about Red Nose Day.

Pic Of The Day - 12.22.14 - Hang On Mr. Snowman

I went home at lunch to walk The Calvinator. It's what I have a quick pee. It's just long enough to let him get some fresh air and pee.

His new crib has a dog run so it is perfect for a quick pee. As we were heading back to the door, I saw this snowman hanging on from a second floor balcony. Someone on Instagram commented, "Don't jump Mr. Snowman!"

With everything going on related to the move, I missed out on taking Calvin to Petsmart for his annual photo with Santa. Through the power of Google, I was able to find Santa making an appearance on December 21 at Meadowlake Pet Resort.

It's a little bit further than I normally travel for a photo but I'm glad I did. Everyone at the place was very friendly and as usual, Calvin made friends with everyone.

Citizens for Animal Protection will always have a place in my heart. You see...

The Calvinator's second owner found him there.  So, I always do what I can to support them.  One of their big events is their fall fundraiser and this year the theme was Paws Across Texas.  I really liked the decor for the evening.

I took The Calvinator to his new crib to let him check it out.  He wasn't so sure about the balcony but eventually he went outside and started his neighborhood watch.  I'm not sure if he realizes that we our new zip code encompasses part of River Oaks.  So yes, we are The Jefferson.  We've moved on up to a "dee-luxe" apartment in the sky...sort of.

When I worked at Project Row Houses, I had the opportunity to meet several artists from across the United States. One of those artists was Stephanie Diamond. Stephanie and her husband were in town to do a guest lecture at University of Houston and one of former colleagues invited me to meet up with them at the park by The Menil Collection. It was a beautiful and day and I couldn't leave Calvin in the house so off we went to the park!

Today is National Dog Day. It's a day to recognize our canine friends and all of the joy they bring to our lives. And in case you haven't figured it out, everyday is dog appreciation day for The Calvinator! This photo was snapped after he had finished his Frosty Paw and he wanted to play. The Calvinator was in a mood on Monday morning. I'm not sure what the mood was but he was intentionally blocking the hallway while I was trying to get ready. I'd step over him and he wouldn't move. I'd talk to him and he wouldn't move. And, the way he was positioned made him look like an inanimate, stuffed animal.

On Thursday evening's stroll with The Calvinator, there was a southern breezed probably coming in from The Gulf.  The Calvinator must have had his Wheaties because he was pulling me.  He loves to walk into the wind.  I snapped this photo just as we were turning around.  He is facing west so the breeze whipped up his fir.

The Calvinator was bathed, dried and fluffed at Dogtopia.  He obviously was feeling good about himself because he was strutting through the neighborhood on his evening stroll.

Many people have said he looks like a bear.  I've always called him my Boogie Bear.

Have you ever been in one of those moods where you just want to get away? Well, this mood swing started about a month ago. I was going to New Orleans with The Calvinator but then one thing lead to another and I decided to head west.

Based upon the recommendation of Marcus and Shannon, and upon further research, I booked a room at Hotel Havana.  I had never heard of it but the fact that they are dog friendly and not in the hub of everything Riverwalk, it sounded like the perfect place to get away...and it was.
