Calvin

Yesterday, Calvin had his picture posted on Houston Dog Blog. The pics were taken while we were waiting for the wrath of Edouard. He passed out waiting for the BIG storm and then awakened when he realized I was taking his photo.

What if you planned a party...

...and nobody showed up?

That's sort of what happened with Tropical Storm Edouard. Now I'm not saying we shouldn't be prepared for power outages, flying debris, etc. BUT when entire newscasts are devoted to the storm that is going to hit us because the meteorologists are so sure it's coming right for us and then they're wrong?

I woke up at 430a.m. to get Calvin walked before the storm hit only to find out it wasn't coming at us. In fact, it started to rain at 630a.m. and it did rain most of the day (we needed the rain) but it was really just a normal rainy day in the summer. Channel 2 didn't even show Matt Lauer in China this morning and Channel 13 didn't show The View because of the storm.

I get the feeling that the news stations hype it up to get ratings. So much so I was even planning on doing a pictorial essay for you of before and after. I have before and during photos but no photos of mass destruction and flooding.

So here are some photos for ya:

This is Buffalo Bayou which would have jumped its banks into Memorial Drive. On the right side is River Oaks and on the left side is NoRO aka 007/Houston.

Tighty Whities Anybody?

I've been a bit preoccupied planning for TS Edouard and completely forgot about National Underwear Day. Thanx to Kenneth In The 212 for reminding me.

If I had remembered, I would have worn some cute undies but instead I'm wearing some Blue Gingham Plaid boxers. I guess because of the weather I was subconsciously channeling Dororthy in Wizard of Oz.

I do have quite the collection of undies; anything from boxers to boxer briefs to briefs. Solids, prints, black, white, different colors; I embrace diversity.

¡Viva National Underwear Day!

Here are some pics from last year:

TS Edouard Part IV

Woke up extra early this morning to walk The Calvinator in anticipation of TS Edouard. As the telly was turning on for an extra early broadcast on Click2 Houston-KPRC, I hear "...and it turned right." Hmmm.

The lead meteorologist was SO sure that we would take a direct hit. What is now going to happen if Edouard stays on his path is that he will hit the same people who got hit by Humberto and Rita. We will get a bunch of rain later on.

I'm looking out the window right now and it is dry. Calvin is looking at me wondering why we are up so early. Guess I'll walk him and go for a run.

TS Edouard Part III

Remember Pac Man? I was having some fun with Photoshop tonight while I'm trying to learn its many functions and thought I would post this.

TS Edouard Part II

So late last night I finally heard someone pronounce the name and it is edWAAARD. Who knew?

It actually sounds a bit pretentious or like some meaux who grew up in Cut 'n Shoot, TX, was named Edward by his family, moved to New York and changed the spelling and pronunciation just to become someone that he's not. Just sayin'.

I look at the spelling and my mind doesn't know what to do with it because my Mexican eyes want to transpose letters and spell Eduardo.

So back in May when everyone on the telly was saying get ready for Hurricane Season I didn't because we don't get storms in our neck of the woods until August. So here it is August 4. Ooops!

I have a stash of vodka, wine and mixers BUT I do need some canned food, etc. just in case we lose power. The Calvinator has plenty of food and treats. THAT is a given.

Right now, Galveston/Houston is scheduled for a direct hit. That means lots of rain and high winds tomorrow. However, as those of us who live in hurricane zones know, this thing could change directions at the last minute.

Do you know anyone named Edouard?

Just askin'. I see it as my duty as Chicken Little to notify everyone along the Louisiana & Texas Gulf Coast that Tropical Storm Edouard has formed in the Gulf. In a matter of hours it went from a depression to a tropical storm.

Chances are it will keep on its western course and head right for Texas. Galveston/Houston is in the strike zone.

And while I'm on the storm topic, how do they come with these names? I mean really. From Dolly to Edouard? hmmm.
