As I See It - 03.14.16 - At The Vet

It was time for The Calvinator's annual checkup and he needed some shots. While he was being weighed and having a blood draw, I was left to my own devices in the exam room. I noticed that one of the walls was covered in artwork with an animal theme. It was sort of like a micro-museum.

As I See It - 02.04.16 - My neighbor's home

I was invited to a cocktail party at the home of one of my neighbor's. I've strolled past it many times but had never been invited in until this night. Little did I know he has all kind of cool art in the domicile!

Pic(s) Of The Day - 12.02.15 - Houston Scene/Seen

Coming back from lunch, I cut through the campus of University of St. Thomas and found this lonely snowperson. Then, later on when I was stuck in traffic on Richmond Avenue, I saw this cool art on a fence.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.13.15 - Sunday Scenes

There are some new stores coming to IAH and I believe this is the construction zone art work for MAC.

While waiting for The Calvinator at Dogtopia, I found this chew toy in the boutique. I wonder if Jimmy Choo knows about it?

Pic(s) Of The Day - 08.23.15 - Social Security

Driving around Houston you just never know what type of art you might see and such was the case on Sunday. These murals are on the building that was once the Social Security office and will soon be a Whole Foods.

Pic(s) Of The Date - 06.14.15 - Walking With The Calvinator

Normally when The Calvinator and I go walking we either go out the back pedestrian gate or we might go west on Richmond Avenue. Sunday morning was different; we went east. And next door The Calvinator's Crib we found McClain Gallery.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 12.27.14 - The Modern

On Saturday, I decided to play tourist and went to The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, aka The Modern. The new structure opened in 2002 and yes, I've been to Fort Worth many times since 2002 but never made the time to visit...until Saturday.

I'm glad I went because the current exhibition is Urban Theater: New York Art in the 1980's. Among the artists in the exhibition: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger,  Robert Mapplethorpe, Allan McCollum, Kenny Scharf, and Andy Warhol.

It was time well spent and it also introduced me to Gran Fury and Guerrilla Girls.

Pic Of The Day - 11.08.14 - Gallery Opening

Bob Briddick had another opening and this time I was able to make it!  I knew Bob created collages but he has expanded his horizons and is now doing boxes...some of them with a whimsical theme.

Pic Of The Day - 10.29.14 - Beauty In Nature

I was out walking The Calvinator and noticed this clump of fungus.  When you closely look at it, it really is pretty.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 09.01.14 - The Houston Penetrable

24,000 hand painted plastic tubes.  Jesus Rafael Soto's The Houston Penetrable was definitely a one-of-a-kind interactive exhibit!

September 1 was the last day of the exhibit and like every good procrastinator I waited until the last day to see it.  I'm glad I did.

What Would You Do For A Klondike Bar...Or A Steak?

From TheDailyGrind.com:

Canadian performance artist Brent Ray Fraser, who showed us how to paint with your penis last month, treated passerbys on Hastings Street in Vancouver, BC with a view of his naked body as he enjoyed a fancy meal on the sidewalk.

Here is the link.

Pic Of The Day - 06.21.14 - Red Ox Bar & Grill

I have a bunch of posts to catch up on so you may see a flurry of posts today.  You will see that I've been busy, busy, busy.  So let's get started with this mural.
I'm noticing that more and more, murals are popping up in Houston.  This one is at Red Ox Bar & Grill and pays homage to Houston and Houston's north side.

The two women who owned Bocado's have opened a new place in the neighborhood where they grew up.  So...I ventured up there with a couple of friends.  It was a great turnout for their grand opening which was also a benefit for Barrio Dogs.  We stayed for a little and then headed over to Brasserie 19 for a long, casual dinner out on the patio.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 05.17.14 - Saturday In The Park

...I think it was the 17th of May.

Saturday evening I had tickets to see Evita at Theatre Under The Stars.  It's been awhile since I've seen the stage production so I was happy to go when it was suggested by Tall Todd.  Before the show, we  met a couple of friends at Batanga for adult beverages and  tapas.

I parked closer to the theatre and walked over to the restaurant.  On my way, I cut through Market Square and snapped these pics.

...and the elephants, trapeze artists, side show and everything else associated with the circus.

Hyde Park Gallery has just opened a show with works by Jim Seigler.  I went to the opening on Thursday night and wasn't sure what to expect.

The collection of work is a variety of watercolor, acrylic, ceramic, ink, etc. and it expands several decades.  In his remarks, the artist stated that every piece of art has a story.  And guess what?  On June 12, 2014, you can hear him speak.  The gallery will have an artist talk on June 12.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 05.04.14 - The Heights

There's a public art installation on Heights Blvd. and on Sunday (5/4/14), I decided I was going to and see it for myself. However, before I did that I went in search of the new Houston mural and I found it!
