On August 7, 2009 Joan Rivers will be making an appearance in Houston, TX. It is a benefit for Brilliant Lectures. The folks at Brilliant Lectures have been kind enough to extend a discount to friends of Legacy. If you go to the website to purchase a ticket, use the promo code Legacy and you will get a 20% discount!
I am thrilled to go see Joan Rivers. As a pre-teen, I accidentally stumbled across her show that was on the telly one afternoon. From best I can remember, it was a syndicated show of her nightclub routine. Keep in mind, this was probably in the real early 70s and we were both much younger!
Her brash humor has always entertained me. I LOVED it when she was the guest host for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. It KILLED me when things got caddywampus between her and Johnny. To be quite honest, when she had her own show, it just wasn't the same as when she was on the Tonight Show; something was missing.
I remember how grief-stricken she was when her husband Edgar died. I also remember how she picked herself up and kept at it.
One of the things I have always admired about Joan Rivers is her ability to laugh at herself. That is something that many people can do because they are not comfortable with themselves. I've always thought that if you can't laugh at yourself, then you shouldn't be laughing at other people.
I have always loved seeing Joan Rivers on The View. I think it makes Barbara Walters a bit uncomfortable but not as uncomfortable as Kathy Griffin! I really wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy seeing her on Celebrity Apprentice. I think she might have been a bit over-the-top but if that was part of her strategy, well hey, it worked.
For those of you who will be attending the show, please remember, it is Adult Humor. I can't wait! Hope to see you there.

Happines & Friendship
By now I am sure you have seen the video of the entrance down the aisle to Jill & Kevin's wedding. When I first viewed it my reaction was, "They must be a fun couple and they have a great group of friends." The video itself is below followed by an interview, a recreation of the entrance and a follow-up story. Bookmark this and if you ever need a smile, play this. How can you not smile and wish them a lifetime of happiness.

Miss Mint Julep 2009 (brief recap), Jukebox Wednesday and Where In The World Is Kaye Sedilla?
It has been a very, very busy week and I have photos to share but I haven't downloaded them yet and not sure when I will get a chance to do so! OY!
Sunday was the 7th Annual Miss Mint Julep Contest. Miss Ginger Grant has done a great recap here.
This event is known for launching the career of many performers. Seven years ago, Kaye Sedilla made her debut and the entertainment world has never been the same. This year, Kitty Kash made her debut and brought down the house! She even did an encore and being true to her name, she brought in the cash. These photos are from Bryan H.
Speaking of Kaye Sedilla, she sent her 1/2-brother Ben Chilada and The Chimichangas to perform on her behalf.
Nasty rumors were floating around the BRB about the whereabouts of Kaye Sedilla. It has been noted before that Kaye is in rehab in Palm Springs. However, someone stated that she is being detained there because she has been slinging tortillas at the other residents. Someone else said that she really isn't in Palm Springs but that she has been deported because she was caught smuggling wigs and falsies. I overheard someone else say that Kaye was being detained in Palm Springs because she can't pay her bill. Now THAT is probably the truth.
This was seen on the side of milk cartons that were at the BRB. Do think we can find Kaye and bring her back in 2010?
Jukebox Wednesday is dedicated to Kitty Kash. You can view the real video (which won't let me post it) here
or below you can view Katy Perry performing Waking Up In Vegas.

Scenes From A Saturday Night In Houston
It was a B-U-S-Y weekend and it kind of snuck up on me. It's all good though. Friday night was with friends at dinner and then went to a show at George Bar. ERSICSS did a show with some of the proceeds benefiting Legacy.
Saturday was going to be a busy night so I planned on laying low during the day. Went for a run and putzed around until a friend called and me invited me over to hangout by the pool at his apartment complex. There were four of us and it was fun.
So, I cleaned up, took care of The Calvinator and headed out for the evening. This was my itinerary for the evening:
1. Bering & James
2. Blossom Street Gallery
3. Quadra - The Birthday Party
4. Meteor (to see the Meteor Showers)
5. House of Pies (OK...technically that was Sunday morning).
Sunday was also busy but I don't have any pics because I forgot my camera. I hope you enjoy the pics and if you want see more, go to my Facebook page and look at my photo albums.

What A Week!
I sincerely apologize for the lack of blogging this week. I had way too much fun last weekend and it wore me out. If you want to see photos, go to my Facebook page and look for the photos.
On Monday I started a new job! I am now working at Legacy Community Health Services. At a later date you will get the 411 on that.
I also missed Jukebox Wednesday. Trust me, I was singing Being Boring all week long. That song makes me laugh and cry. Just depends on my mood.
Anywho. I have another post to compose but just wanted to thank my faithful readers for sticking with me.

Only the good die young
Many of you may remember Billy Joel's song Only The Good Die Young. It was quite popular when I was in high school...Catholic high school that is. If you know the lyrics you know the significance of the song to going to a Catholic high school.
I picked a fight with someone the other night. A few adult beverages and some text messages and once the ball started rolling down the hill I wouldn't let it stop.
My bad behavior was really bugging me and I called the person today to apologize. Whether I was right or wrong I should have dealt with this in an adult manner rather than doing it via text messages.
In our talk today he told me about someone who died yesterday. Tyler Goolsby died yesterday at the age of 27. It was sudden. I don't have all of the details but I do know that he was with friends when it happened.
Tyler had just finished law school. He was also a member of the Lonestar Lariats. I've read postings on his Facebook wall and he was a really special guy.
Tyler's untimely death is on the heals of the death of a cousin of mine. James was only 45 and he too died suddenly.
I am very glad that I called and apologized to my friend. If I hadn't done it and if something happened to him, I would never be able to forgive myself. So please, if there is someone in your life that you need to make amends with, please do it. Obviously, life can be too short.
I went to Mass this evening and one of the songs had this lyric in it: There is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend. It reminded me of a conversation I had late last night with someone. We were talking about our unique friendship that is based upon us being über-fans of Pet Shop Boys. We had been together for a big chunk of the afternoon and evening and the song Being Boring was our theme song last night.
Cherish the people in your life.

Jukebox Wednesday
It is very rare that I will do the same artist two weeks in a row. However, with Independence Day approaching I decided to post this video of Ray Charles singing America The Beautiful.
I first heard a version of this song when it was used in a slide show at a conference. That was in 1980 in Washington, D.C. It still makes me tingle.
