Ramblings Of A Caffeinated Mind 3.8

I have an uncanny ability to hear thunderstorms approaching while I am asleep. It's not like radar or anything. I think it has to do with having a dog that needs and likes to be walked and trying to time the walk with approaching rain.

I had a really good workout last night at LeFittes and I was sound asleep in the wee hours of the morning when I heard thunder off in the distance. I looked at my watch and it was 411A but I couldn't figure out how far away the storm was, was it coming from the Gulf, from the west or from the north and was it really going to rain on NoRO?

I called for The Calvinator and he jumped on the bed with me and waited. Sure enough it happened. The storm came in from the north with a belly full of rain and the accompanying thunder and lightning. Believe it or not, Calvin stayed with me through the storm. Normally he just lays there, gets his tummy rubbed and then leaves.

Knowing that the ground would be soaked I made sure NOT to wear the soccer sandals for our morning stroll. I think the reason I lost my footing yesterday is because there isn't much to hold your foot in place with the soccer sandals. So I got my Keens and off we went. An uneventful walk this morning.

Me wearing the Keen shoes. It took several shots to get a good photo. It's difficult to take a picture of your feet and not have them look like they belong on an oversized Mickey Mouse.

Got back to the house and turned on the telly and remembered BBC was carrying live coverage of Princess Di's Memorial Service. I only watched the exit processional. I'm not going to post much about Di. I've already done a post about where I was the day that she died.

I still find it hard to believe that we were the same age. I think that is the underlying thought that I use to connect with her death. It is also hard to believe it has been 10 years.

I heard that Dodi's father was not invited to the service. He held a moment of silence for his son and Di at Harrod's.

It's Labor Day weekend and it looks like it is going to be a quiet one for me and The Calvinator; no complaints here.

Friends are heading out to New Orleans for Southern Decadence and others are heading to Austin for Last Splash. Another friend is heading to the ATL. Sofi Bon Chien is having a b'day party in San Francisco. Happy B'day Sofi!

Sofi Bon Chien

I might head over to the MFA/Houston to view Red Hot Asian on Saturday.

I do need to get a run in tomorrow morning. 6, 7 or 8 miles? We'll see what I feel like in the a.m. Also need to make some cards and do some prototypes for a potential client. It might turn out to be a putz-around weekend. :-)

Have a safe weekend everyone!

Ramblings Of A Caffeinated Mind 2.0

I'm a bit late with today's posting. I've been busy today helping Kaye Sedilla with a mail out promoting her upcoming appearance in Houston on July 15.

In case you're wondering, the finger is much better. Not as swollen and not as much pain. I may actually go to the gym and try to do some weights.

Didn't go running this morning. The Calvinator and I went for a 530A walk right before it started to rain. We did his mid-day walk in the rain and it looks like it has finally quit...for awhile.

I have a few things on my mind....
Concert for Diana
I didn't get to watch the whole thing; I'll watch it later. However, I did see parts of it and then saw some highlights on NBC last night.

When did Nelly Furtado become a hottie? I remember when she first released I'm Like A Bird. The music that was packaged with that song was OK. And she looked OK. At some point she seems to have found her groove and changed her look and music style. Maybe I just never noticed? I have a few of her songs from Loose on my iPod.
Diddy. or is it P. Diddy? or is it Puff Daddy. (Bill or Billy or Mack or Buddy) There is one song that I really like of his and wouldn't you know that he performed it yesterday and almost had me in tears? I'll Be Missing You was written about The Notorious B.I.G. He performed it yesterday in honor of Diana. It was an excellent rendition. He had a choir in black robes backing him up and and an all female string section. I've already commented on Duran Duran. SIDEBAR: NBC showed them performing Rio and The Calvinator was sitting next to me. I reminded him that he slept through the live performance. I asked him if he wanted to dance and shake his maracas? Every time I said maracas, his ears perked up. I kept saying it over and over to the point where I was almost hysterical.

And I don't care how round Elton John has become he can still play the piano!

The Cal Mobile
I've been teasing y'all with "something I've been up to" and now I will do my reveal. I bought an '06 Escape last week. Wasn't sure that I could do another hurricane evacuation so I wanted to make sure that Calvin and I could get the h#ll outta Dodge if need be. I love being up high! However, this is Texas and someone will always have a vehicle, bigger, wider and taller than mine.

Concert For Diana

It is a rainy morning here in Houston. Str8 Up With a Twist is moving a bit slow this morning. A good time was had by all yesterday and I'm still trying to figure out how I damaged my finger yesterday. It is swollen but moveable.

I have a Krewe meeting and party to get to later and have laundry to fold and dishes to wash but instead I'm sitting here reminiscing while The Calvinator allows me to indulge myself. (He is passed out and should be rockin' to Duran Duran performing Rio.

Currently on VH1, they are airing live footage from Wembley Stadium.
Princes William and Harry wanted to honor the memory of their mother on what would have been her 46th birthday. The 10th anniversary of her death is August 31. The boys selected the artists who would perform today and selected the songs.

The night that she died is one of those moments in time that I will always remember what I was doing when it happened. I was in New Orleans. I had a wonderful dinner with Jim and Jamie at Bacco. We had returned to the Monteleone to change clothes before we went out for the evening. I was flipping channels and came across live coverage from Paris. It was one of those situations that had me glued to the telly. We thought she would be OK. Later on we encountered a guy who kept saying, "She's dead. She's dead."

During the concert they are doing tributes to her. I wish the lump in my throat would go away. This is supposed to be a celebration. Guess I should get in the mood, huh? ;-)

Soon I will be posting photos of my new purchase and a few photos from yesterday. Watch for them.
