Pic(s) Of The Day - 01.11.15 - (fill in the blank)

Sunday, like Saturday, which was life Friday, which was like Thursday, well you get the picture was gloomy. Not only was it gloomy, it was wet!

Because I had a meeting in the afternoon, I knew that I would not be able to make the 5:00PM Mass at St. Anne Catholic Church so I woke up extra early, waited for the rain to subside, walked The Calvinator and then made it to the 7:00AM Mass at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

I was a bit surprised that the Nativity scene was still up and all of the Christmas decorations but hey, I'm not complaining.

And then there is this collage of photos.

The only way I could get The Calvinator to pose was to offer him treats. This is his new haircut.

Things didn't work out like I wanted them to on the the previous day. He had a scheduled appointment at Dirty Hairy for a 12:00PM grooming but when we arrived, he wasn't on the books and he couldn't be worked in. That's OK for people with flexible schedules but I'm not one of those people anymore. Plus, the place isn't that convenient anymore because of the move.

Needless to say, I wasn't not please with the situation and it's the second time something similar has happened to me at that establishment. So...we trotted our happy asses out of the establishment and I sat in the car trying to figure out what my next move would be. I then remembered that in The Calvinator's new 'hood, there is a Petsmart so I called and they were able to work him in.

I think he looks adorable but the reaction I received would tell me otherwise. He really didn't want to have anything to do with me when I picked him up and when we arrived at his crib. He really needed a trim because his bangs were so long, he walked into a wall one day and into a car one night. Regardless of what HE thinks, I think he looks muy guapo.

Pic Of The Day - 12.24.14 - It's A Christmas Miracle.

For those of you who have been following this blog, you know that I got WAY behind in posting my Pic Of The Day. And, you also know that recently I lost track of taking at least one photo a day.

Well, with this post, I am caught up through yesterday which means I'm caught up because I typically post the Pic Of The Day the next day. Make sense? And yes, this is a Christmas miracle that I'm caught up!

I'm not sure when we started going to the Christmas Vigil Mass at St. George Catholic Church in Ft. Worth. As a kid, I remember going to Mass on Christmas Day. Sometimes I would sing at Midnight Mass. A few times we attended Midnight Mass at All Saints Catholic Church.

So...as we have done for the past however many years, we attendedthe Christmas Vigil Mass last night at St. George.
I'm also not sure when we started having dinner after Mass and opening presents but the tradition continued this year as well.

Stop And Smell The Roses

I woke up early on Sunday and decided to go to the 7:00 a.m. Mass at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. It was a gray morning in Houston and my eyes were attracted to a pop off red color.  The flower beds were full of red roses.

Everybody run,

the homecoming queen's got a gun.

Today I realized why people snap. They just lose it. And you wonder, "How did that happen?" And today the above song has been on my mind. Here's what happened.

I knew that I wouldn't be able to make the 500P Mass today at St. Anne's. Plus they are having the Fall Fiesta so parking would be difficult. I opted to run over to St. Theresa's for the 1000A Mass.

I was already wired from the Claritin-D and the Iced Grande Sugar-free Vanilla Non-fat Latte so I really didn't need to be bothered.

Sitting behind me were some teenage girls with an infant. Jabber, jabber, jabber + baby crying.

In front of me was a guy, probably my age or a bit younger, with two boys. The kids were probably 5 & 6 years of age and dad was sitting between them trying to keep them apart. The kids couldn't sit still.

I kept trying to ignore the distractions around me and concentrate on the Mass and I was doing a good job until we reached the Eucharistic Prayer. (This is the part of the Mass where everyone is kneeling and the priest is consecrating the host.) So you see, it is supposed to be quiet and everyone is supposed to be concentrating on what is going on.

The two boys in front of me were fighting over the hymnals. They had a stack of 5 and they couldn't have 2 & 3 or 3 & 1 or 1 & 4. It was all or nothing. Dad was not making much of an effort to break up the fight. I was getting furious.

I was really trying to ignore what was happening in front of me but I couldn't. I was really trying to concentrate on what was happening on the altar, but I couldn't. I really wanted to bop them on the head; dad included. And then I thought, "If I had a gun I'd probably shoot them; not to kill but to get their attention."

The kid in front of me finally got all 5 hymnals and the other one was starting to do a silent cry. I leaned forward and grabbed all 5 hymnals and put them in my pew. The kids looked stunned. Dad was embarassed. The girls behind me started giggling. I wondered if I was going to get my lights punched out in church?

Dad said something to the two boys and then the oldest one said, "I didn't mean to embarass you dad." Uh, hello. NO apology to me or to the people in front of them?

It came time for the Communion hymn and dad reached to get a hymnal. Guess what? I had the hymnals and I wasn't sharing.

Needless to say, I feel like I didn't get much out of going to Mass today. The sermon was good so maybe it wasn't a total loss.

I got out of the church before anyone could say something to me or hit me. Not sure that I'll be going back to the 1000A Mass at St. Theresa's anytime in the near future.
