I have a love affair with Kinky Boots. It started in September of 2013.

Well, the touring company made its way to Houston and I went with some friends on Thursday evening. The touring cast works just as hard as the Broadway cast and had the audience on their fit the moment curtain call started.

It's SAD - Single Awareness Day

Today is the day that many of us are reminded that we are single.  And while couples are out paying high prices for dinner, and florists are driving all over town delivering flowers, and chocolates are being consumed by the pound, there are those of us who will consider this just another day.

There is a bright spot in all of this for me.  First of all, I *heart* this photo from Kinky Boots.  It was on their Facebook page and it has some of the best lines from their songs.

And the second part is that I've been invited to dinner in River Oaks.  Some friends are having a small dinner party and I have no idea who is invited and I'm fine with that.  It will make for an interesting evening and knowing these guys, it will be fun!

Kinky Boots Part III

In the category of WTF...

Earlier today I was on Facebook and a friend posted a link to a story on Huffington Post about people who were upset that there was a performance of Kinky Boots during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  The upset people obviously have no idea what the show is about because if they did they would know it is about acceptance and tolerance.  Here are some of the comments:

To me there are two things that need explaining...

1) Why is Stark Sands in a sports coat, dress shirt and tie, and boxers;

2) How do women AND men dance in those boots?

So anyone watching the parade yesterday felt uncomfortable with their kids watching the performance, I guarantee you the kids probably didn't know that those were men dressed as women.  It only became a big deal when the parents made it a big deal.  And who knows, maybe some kid was inspired to become a dancer and singer.

If a child DID ask questions, it was the perfect opportunity for parents to talk about accepting people for who they are and a discussion about tolerance.

Now for the fun part of all of this...

Kinky Boots Part II

I can't believe I missed this yesterday!  I was doing odds & ends around The Calvinator's North Texas Crib and didn't get to watch the parade from beginning to end.

 

 

 I knew there would be a highlight from Kinky Boots and I was hoping this would be the song.  This is a very uplifting song and I was humming it when I left the theatre on my recent trip to NYC.  Once again Kinky Boots, thanx for making me smile!

P.S. I'm still amazed at anyone, female or male, who can dance heels that high!  Something to aspire to I guess.

Kinky Boots

Well...this totally blew me away!  I purchased a ticket for this Tony Award winning show thinking it was all about shoes and boots and little did I know that there is a moral to the story.

When the ensemble came out at curtain call, I was one of the first people on my feet.  That is so not me.

I even stayed after the show and waited by the stage door to meet members of the cast.  I was totally thrilled to meet Billy Porter and to get his autograph.

If you're in New York and only have time to see one show, make it Kinky Boots!  It's a show with a  sole.
