It was another full day.

I took the day off to go the Houston Ballet's Nutcracker Market and that place was nuts! It was NRG Center and the exhibit hall was full. I may or may not have purchased a few things. One vendor told me to get out of there by 2:00PM because it would be wall-to-wall people.

Later that evening I was BACK at Hilton America's for March of Dimes Signature Chefs Gala. This is one of my favorite events to attend because guests get to sample food from some of Houston's best restaurants.

I find myself at the Hilton Americas quite often mainly because it is centrally located, has big ballrooms and people like to throw swanky galas and luncheons there. And it so it happened again for the Holocaust Museum Guardian Of The Human Spirit luncheon.

Pic(s) Of The Day - 08.18.15 - What A Day

Every now and then I have one of those non-stop days. It started off with the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Health Summit and Business Expo at the Hilton Americas. That evening I was at the launch party for Heart of Fashion which will take place in November. Then, it was off to China Garden for EPAH's dinner meeting and election of officers. At the meeting I was elected Vice President. What a day!

Pic Of The Day - 04.09.15 - Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

Thursday was the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Luncheon & Business Expo. If memory serves me correctly, it was the 22nd annual luncheon. I knew there were over 1,000 people in attendance but I didn't realize that it was actually closer to 1,500. That's a big luncheon!

And you never know who might just drop in. This time it was Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

This light fixture looks like something you would find in the ocean but instead it is hanging from the ceiling.  The Hilton Americas has some really nice light fixtures.

(not so) Str8 Up With A Twist

I was back at the Hilton Americas on Saturday for the Creating Change 26 conference on Saturday.  I spend additional time hobnobbing schmoozing networkingwith people from all over.  I was also to present with some of my co-workers about Legacy's history and the impact of fundraising.  The title of the presentation was The Little Agency That Could...and Did!

More portion was subtitled Parallel Lines and had one timeline of the growth of the agency with another timeline of the impact of HIV/AIDS in the U.S.  I thought we were wonderful.

So...after it was over, I proceeded to the bar.  I was going to order a Rose Kennedy but right before the waitress left I noticed this on the table:

I've never been a big fan of fruity drinks that try to pass as a Martini just because it is served in a Martini glass.  I've been known to drink a Cosmo from time to time.  Lemon Drops don't really do it for me.  So I was bit skeptical about this but when in Rome when at Creating Change why not?

Well...the damn thing was so good I had two!  I'm glad I went out of my comfort zone.

Creating Change 26 rolled into H-town earlier in the week.  It was the first time the conference has been held in Houston.  Attendance figures were around 4,000 which puts it a the largest attendance in the history of the conference.

I attended Creating Change 24 when it was in Baltimore.  I didn't know what to expect so this time around I was prepared.  However, I wasn't really prepared for this:

 and to be quite honest with you, I'm still not sure what it is but if I had to guess, it is some type of a chamber where people could get a way from it all and relax and have some peace and quiet.  It was located in the lobby of the 4th floor of the Hilton Americas.  

When I took the photo, there was actually a man laying face down.  If he hadn't have been in there, I would have taken a photo of the interior.  The exterior makes a really cool photo too!

Cabaret For A Cure was held at The Hilton Americas Houston. It was a benefit for Legacy Community Health Services. The featured performers were Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr.

I had a really nice enjoying the performances, the food and seeing many of Houston's philanthropic community. Thank you to everyone who had a part in the event!

Scenes From A Friday Night in Houston - Cabaret For A Cure

On Friday evening, Legacy Community Health Services was the beneficiary of Cabaret For A Cure. This was an evening of musical entertainment, good food, many adult beverages, stunning reparteé, and lots of laughter. The gliterati of Houston were in attendance.

Emcee for the evening was Deborah Duncan (who knew she could sing?).


Performers included: Ken Gayle, Deidrie Henry, The Richard Brown Orchestra, La Kisha Jones, Todd Honeycutt, Bubba McNeely, Moodafaruka, Hang Neil, Melissa "Sky" Shepherd, Shaun Smith and Adam Tendler.



The headliner for the evening was Diane Schuur! Diane Schuur is one of those performers who was on my list of "Must See Before I Die." Don't worry. It is a long list and I'm not planning on dieing anytime soon.

It really was a great evening and all for a great cause: HIV/AIDS Programs at Legacy. A special shout out to Paul-David Van Atta (Legacy Board Member) and the staff at Legacy for doing such a great job!
