This weekend, when the clock strikes 2:00A.M. we will gain an hour because it is the end of Daylight Savings Time. For us Yanks on this side of the pond, this Brit is the perfect reminder.

Stayin' Alive

This morning I was watching Today Show and there was a story about a man who saved another man's life by humming Staying Alive. It seems that the 100 beats per minute in the song are the perfect beat to do CPR without doing the breathing. The gentleman saw Matt Lauer do the demo last year and remembered.

A doctor was part of the interview and was questioned about this technique. He was asked if it was safe? He said that technically, the person is dead so it can't hurt. LOL

Jukebox Wednesday

September has always been an odd month for me. It always signaled the beginning of the school year. When I worked at a university in the admission/financial aid office, it always meant that the freshmen class was coming in and it was time to start a new recruitment year.

Labor Day is usually considered the line of demarcation for the end of Summer. The Miss America Pageant used to be held in September. Throw on top of this, the peak of Hurricane Season is September 10.

Somewhere in September, the temperatures actually start to drop from the high 90s to the high 80s. The daylight hours are definitely getting shorter in September. Football season begins in September. September also signals the beginning of fun runs in Houston because now people can run and actually enjoy it.

And how can we forget September 9, 2001 (9/11)?

And then there is the song by Green Day. I will always associate this song with Hurricane Katrina & Hurricane Rita. Even though Katrina made landfall on August 26, 2005, much of the month of September was spent dealing with the aftermath of the storm. In September of 2005 when Rita was threatening Galveston-Houston, it lead to the biggest evacuation of a major American city only to have the storm go into southwestern Louisiana and finish off what Katrina left behind.

Even though my birthday is in September, I really don't like the month.

National Dog Day

According to Ryan & Isabella at Houston Dog Blog, tomorrow is National Dog Day. According to the website, "...August 26th serves as a day to acknowledge those dogs that selflessly devote each day to save lives, keep us safe and be our loyal companions."

What they don't know is that every day is Dog Day where I live. Calvin always comes first! It's all about Calvin. And why shouldn't it be? He is the epitome of man's best friend.

For those of you who have never owned a dog, they are the best example of unconditional love. Of course it has to do with the fact that they stick close to the people who feed them, give them treats and take them for rides and walks.

So if you have a dog, give that dog a very special hug tomorrow.

Hey bois & girls...it's your long lost blogger. Yes. I am still around. I've been busy with the new job and doing things out and about. To top it off, I've been having laptop issues!

Anywho, Trash Disco was fun. Ginger Grant did a nice recap here. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Kevin clued me on this song a few weeks ago and I cannot get it out of my head! I play in The Cal Mobile. I play it when I'm running. I hum it for no reason. It's one of those songs that I think Kaye Sedilla should consider for her comeback in July 2010. Enjoy!
