Pic Of The Day - 01.01.15 - And We're Off!

So...if you read yesterday's post, you will recall that my inspiration for this Pic Of The Day project was inspired by Carly Simon. For 2014, I was about 98% successful in documenting the year. And, I'm going to it another shot.

So...this is the first Pic Of The Day for 2015.

This is a pot of jambalaya. It's a tradition that I started a few years ago on the first day of the year; make a pot of jambalaya. I tried making posole but I've never been able to nail the consistency of the broth and the spices like my dad and paternal grandmother could make. I've nailed the jambalaya so in the spirit of stick with what you know, I'm sticking with the jambalaya.

I didn't spend all day in the apartment. I did get out and go to Starbucks, Walmart, HEB and to an afternoon party. I still have plenty of unpacking to do and a bunch of laundry, so guess what I'll be doing this weekend!

I love going to parties that have themes! So...on Friday night I went to a Red, White & Blue party. I was a post-birthday celebration for Brian and pre-birthday celebration for John. They're always the most gracious hosts and are always opening up their home to guests and to non-profits for fundraisers. They're good eggs.

The Mardi Gras Party Season continues.  Friday night The Diana Foundation had a party at the home of John Danielson & Brian Flores.  The house looked like something on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans.  And I couldn't post just one pic because the jester was too cute.

Every now and then an über-fun party unexpectedly falls in my lap. I should have known that Marcus & Shannon would throw a fun party for Valentine's Day but I didn't expect to have THAT much fun. They hired the taco truck to provide food, hired a dj to spin vinyl, hired a bartender, and rented the photo booth for guests to enjoy at their pleasure. They gave us the ingredients for a perfect storm of fun!

Marcus is a well-built, handsome muscular man who was walking around in a VD Nurses outfit. He told me NOT to put some of the photos on Facebook and when Marcus talks, I listen!

And to top off the weekend, it was Super Bowl Sunday. The Saints beat the Colts. It was a good game and I am glad the Saints were victorius. There were several parties going on and I attended two. I wore my gold and black and BIG fleur de lis! I think it was THE lucky charm.

I have been invited to The Ugly Sweater Party which will be on January 30, 2010. Here's the problem. A few years ago, I purged my closet of ugly sweaters. So I had to go buy one. As an added treat for me being tardy in posting, I am posting pics of my selection of ugly sweaters at Goodwill. Can you guess which one I bought?

Yesterday was a very busy day. I was at Career and Education Day presented by Houston Hispanic Forum. Later that evening I was at Red Explosion. This was a fundraiser for Krewe of Olympus-Texas. It was a fun time!

Scenes from a Saturday Night (early Sunday morning in Houston)

I received an invitation to the 20th Magnolia Holiday Party. I have lived in Houston since 1992 and had never been invited to this party...how could that be? So with invitation in hand and a friends by my side, we were off to the party.

Now you may be wonder why the word Magnolia is used in the name of this party. Well as it turns out the party originally started at the historic Magnolia Ballroom. The party outgrew the ballroom so it has traveled to different venues.

This year's event was open bar and I made sure to get over-served and turn into a lushpartake of the kindness of the hosts. Also at this year's event, Legacy Community Health Services was one of the beneficiaries. Guests had the option of making a donation to one of five beneficiaries.

"Does every party have to have a theme?"

That was the question posed to me and Kevin one afternoon as we sipped Margaritas outside on an October Wednesday afternoon. And we replied, "Well yes. Otherwise it is just a party."

Yesterday, Krewe of Olympus-Texas had a brunch as a fundraiser. It wasn't just any brunch. It was Kicked Up A Notch...a Latin brunch.

Halloween 2009

It was sort of odd this year. Halloween was on a Saturday night and a people chunk of the peeps that I roll with were in New Orleans. Normally on a Saturday I can walk into a myriad of bars and know oodles of people; not this year.

Kevin and I ran around together on Saturday evening into the wee hours of Sunday morning. Jim & Ben joined us at one point.

I'm really trying to catch up with events of the past week. So, last Wednesday a friend of mine decided to have a pumpkin carving party modeled (pun intended) after America's Next Top Model. I do have have some friends with creative minds. ANTP was hosted by Not So Tyra.

XXX - Bunnies On The Bayou

It was Triple X fun on Sunday as Bunnies gathered from near and far to celebrate Easter. This was the 30th Anniversary of Bunnies On The Bayou.

The party was supposed to start at 1PM but it was raining bunnies and chickens cats and dogs. After the rain stopped, the skies cleared and the sun came out. The music started, the vodka flowed like manna from heaven, the shirts came off and XXX fun began!


I haven't worn this outfit in a few years. Ya gotta love having a closet full of costumes.

Boy Ginger invited Str8 Up With A Twist to be a part of his tent.

There was a foreign delegation of bunnies which goes to prove that Houston really IS an international city.

Fellow blogger Al was there with his posse...although none of his posse was around when I took the pic.

Hello! Let me introduce myself to you.

Bois and gurrls. I am so sorry. I feel like I have been neglecting and well, I have but it wasn't intentional.

It's been whirlwind of activity since I started my new job and I REALLY meant to post something over the weekend but a pool party and a party for Legacy got in the way. Plus my other weekend stuff of running (on a bum knee), working out, checking in at the office and making new friends have just kept me being a busy boi.

I really meant to write a longer post this evening but I swear Apple is out to drive me crazy! And yes, it has to do with the iPod nano.

I haven't even had a chance to pay attention to Ike. Everytime I hear that name I start humming Proud Mary. I didn't even like Ike Turner. And once again, I must ask, who comes up with these names?

Well in case you haven't been paying attention, the cone of uncertainty changes everytime a Houston weatherman sneezes. OY! Maybe I won't have to spend my birthday Wednesday night in line at Kroger replenishing supplies. I really need to stop buying food that I normally wouldn't eat. I'm beginning to wonder if Kroger, HEB, Randalls, Piggly Wiggly and Fiesta have something to do with all of these hurricanes. I'm just sayin'.

One other thing to report...Calvin tried to mawl me while I was in bed. He's been reading a book or something because he went for my wrist and right for the vein! They don't call him The Calvinator for no reason.

I think he is a bit p!ssed that I haven't been spending more time with him and I did return a bit late after making new friends. I think he was trying to tell me something. Just a minute ago I walked up to him to pet him and he growled. LOL Well, turns out he had just started munching on a rawhide and I didn't know it. I think I'm gonna be like Korto on Project Runway and sleep with one eye open.
