(Boston) Santa Speedo Run 2014

You can tell that I'm way behind on my posts because by now I would have already posted something about the Santa Speedo Run in Boston. There are several other runs that are spin-offs of the Boston run but the Boston always seems to have the most fun.

I've never been so I rely upon the Bostonians to cover the event. BosGuy has put together a video with some of the highlights.

Today is the annual running of the Santa Speedo Run in Boston.  This year's run benefits Play Ball Foundation.  In my opinion, it looks like a good cause, to run around in a Speedo in freezing weather but then hang out at bar and have a beverage or two.

I guess I first became aware of this event back in 2007 because this is the first post I did about the event.  There are a couple of blogs that I'll be checking in with today and tomorrow and will let you know where to find photos like this from Nicole Connolly.

Santa Speedo Run

I'm posting from my Blackberry so I'm not sure what this will look like.

I just realized that today in Boston is the running of The Santa Speedo Run. Last year I posted some photos with some links. So if you want see them and because I don't know how to link on the Blackberry, look in my blog archives for December 2008 Looks like fun times in Beantown. And I can't wait to see photos from this year. With it being a bit chilly in the Northeast this weekend, I hope their isn't an over abundance of shrinkage. Just sayin'.

Santa Speedo Run 2008

Yesterday was the 9th Annual Running of the Santa Speedo Run. The high temperature in Boston was 32 degrees Fahrenheit. OY! According to Boston.com it looks like a good time was had by all. Here are some photos from yesterday's run (from Boston.com).

Tomorrow will be the 9th Annual Speedo Run in Boston, MA, USA. The beneficiary for the run will be Cradles To Crayons. Runners have been asked to raise $250 in donations.

It doesn't get very cold here in Houston during December. However, this morning when I was walking The Calvinator it was 33 degrees Fahrenheit. Uh...that is cold regardless of where you live. It got me to thinking...how cold is too cold to run in Speedo?

Santa Speedo Run 2007 update

Last night, on a whim, before I headed out to a Christmas Party I sent an email to the guy who has posted of the 2005 and 2006 Santa Speedo Runs. He replied immediately and for about 15 minutes we traded emails.

He will photographing today's run in Boston and said he will have the photos on his flickr account within a few days.

Man chugs liter of vodka in airport security line
New liquid quantity rules prompt man's decision to drink entire bottle

BERLIN - A man nearly died from alcohol poisoning after quaffing a liter (two pints) of vodka at an airport security check instead of handing it over to comply with new carry-on rules, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the Nuremberg airport on Tuesday, where the 64-year-old man was switching planes on his way home to Dresden from a holiday in Egypt.

New airport rules prohibit passengers from carrying larger quantities of liquid onto planes, and he was told at a security check he would have to either throw out the bottle of vodka or pay a fee to have his carry-on bag checked as cargo.

Instead, he chugged the bottle down — and was quickly unable to stand or otherwise function, police said.

A doctor called to the scene determined he had possibly life-threatening alcohol poisoning, and he was sent to a Nuremberg clinic for treatment.

The man, whose name was not released, is expected to be able to complete his journey home in a few days.

I had a picture of some vodka bottles that I was going to use but then I remembered that I had this pic and thought it was much more pleasing to the eye.

Did Somebody Say Speedo?

If you're in Boston this weekend, don your holiday Speedo and run the Santa Speedo Run. It is a short run. Only 1.25 miles but I would guess that it might be a bit frigid in Boston this weekend so considering the temperature and shrinkage factors, 1.25 miles is probably a good idea.

Here's the schedule:
10:00 am–12:45 pm Registration and libations
12:45 pm–1:00 pm Strip down and file out to the street
1:00 pm–1:30 pm Run
1:30 pm– Party, raffle, and giveaways

What to wear:
Obviously, a Speedo-like bathing suit is required. Holiday colors are preferred
Sneakers
Santa hat, beard and other holiday flair at your discretion
A bag to put your clothes in while running

Why:
The run benefits a local charity in Boston. Each runner is asked to raise $250.

I myself will be staying in Houston this weekend and wondering what kind of weather we'll be having for my Saturday morning run; a Speedo or a parka, decisions.
