I was out running errands on Saturday and decided to stop my Specs. I always find something that I don't need and I couldn't help but purchase these napkins.

So...on Tuesday, the 17th, I went to a happy hour at Alley Kat Bar.  I'd never been there before so it gave me a reason to try something new.  Hip.  Quaint.  Cool

CONE OF UNCERTAINTY
1 oz. cinnamon schnapps
1 sugar cone
Pour the schnapps into the sugar cone. Every time you hear a TV weathermansay, "cone of uncertainty ," bite off the end of the cone and down the shot. Ifyou hear Jim Cantore say it, drink two shots consecutively.(they should change this to the "Cantore Zone"... dang him.Have you ever noticed that, despite all the cone of probability talk, if Cantore is parked in front of your house you are toast?)

FEEDER BAND
2 oz. Midori
2 oz. rum
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
After your home loses power, combine Midori and rum in a cocktail glass.
Add a scoop of the vanilla ice cream that is melting in your freezer.
Stir, and drink through a straw.

MANDATORY EVACUATION
1 1/2 oz. Absolute Ruby Red vodka
1/2 oz. vermouth
Clamato
Prune juice
Combine vodka and vermouth in cocktail glass. Fill remainder of glass with equalparts Clamato and prune juice. Stir. Drink. Ask next-door neighbor whose ficus tree blew over and crashed onto your roof -- even though you'd warned him for months to uproot it -- if you can use his bathroom. Repeat.

CATEGORY 5
1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. tequila
1/2 oz. rum
1/2 oz. bourbon
1/2 oz. gin
Sweet-and-sour mix
Splash of fruit juice
Combine vodka, tequila, rum, bourbon and gin in a tall glass.
Fill remainder of glass with sweet-and-sour mix and splash of juice.
Stir, then garnish with an inverted drink umbrella.
Drink during peak storm hours, and vow not to believe anyone who tries to tellyou the hurricane that flooded your garage and destroyed your shed was just a Category 1

BEACH EROSION
1 1/2 oz. Goldschlager
1 1/2 oz. apple brandy
1 pack Sugar in the Raw
Combine Goldschlager, apple brandy and sugar in cocktail glass.As you drink, seriously contemplate moving your Yankee backside back to NewJersey where it belongs.

DOWNED POWER LINE
1 1/2 oz. rum
5 oz. Jolt Cola
Combine ingredients in a cocktail glass.
Drink while trying to figure out how the heck you're supposed to go two freakin'weeks without TV and AC

FLOOD ZONE
2 oz. Kahlua
2 oz. Baileys Irish cream
4 oz. rum
Serve in a 6-ounce glass and laugh-cry deliriously as the mess spills all overthe counter top.

COLD SHOWER
2 oz. Blue Aftershock
4 oz. Sprite
Combine in a cocktail glass with crushed ice you received after waiting in line for three hours at a mall parking lot. Take a deep breath, sip and scream like a little girl when the cold beverage hits your tongue. Repeat.

LOOTERS WILL BE SHOT
1 oz. Jack Daniel's
Splash of sarsaparilla
Rock salt
Load both barrels of a shotgun with rock salt. Climb to the roof of your house with gun, bottle of Jack Daniel's and can of sarsaparilla.
Fill shot glass with Jack and splash of sarsaparilla.
Watch for looters.When you spot one, blast his backside with rock salt.Drink shot. Repeat.

THE CHAIN SAW
1 oz. Goldschlager
1 oz. Rumplemintz
3 oz. Jim Beam
Splash of vermouth
Combine Goldschlager, Rumplemintz and Jim Beam in an empty soup can.
Add splash of vermouth. Drink. Remove chain saw from garage and attempt to cutup fallen tree limbs in yard.
Ask neighbor to drive you to hospital when it all goes horribly wrong

FOUR-WAY STOP
1 1/2 oz. vodka
1 1/2 oz. vodka and Midori
1 1/2 oz. vodka and Galliano
1 1/2 oz. vodka and grenadine
Pour each ingredient into a separate shot glass.
Serve one to yourself and to three other people.
The person with the clear shot of vodka drinks first.
The person to his right drinks the Midori shot, and so on.
If somebody drinks out of order, develop a quick case of road rage and slap him silly

BLUE TARP
1 1/2 oz. Curacao
2 oz. pineapple juice
Splash of lime
Combine ingredients in a leaky paper cup and serve.
Wait six to eight months for someone to repair the cup.
If you're impatient, hire an unlicensed, out-of-state contractor to do the jobfor an exorbitant sum and pray he doesn't hurt himself in the process.

FEMA FIZZLE
1 oz. Southern Comfort
2 oz. sloe gin
Tonic water
One week after the storm has passed and your neighborhood is still in ruins with no sign of help on the way, combine Southern Comfort and gin in a cocktail glass.
Fill remainder with tonic and add a dash of Angostura bitters.
Serve with a nut brownie. Before drinking, raise the glass and say the toast,"Doing a helluva job, Brownie!"

Sorry About That

Yesterday was a busy day. I wasn't going to post anything and then something happened last night that got me p!ssed off.

So if you happened to read Str8 Up With A Twist between the hours of 10:30 p.m. (CDT) and 5:30 a.m. (CDT) this morning, you will know I thoroughly p!ssed off. Not sure that many people have ever seen me that upset.

Anywho...I do need to go buy some tonic and some lemons & limes so that when I do need a good strong drink I can either have a Vodka Tonic with lime or a Martini Straight Up With A Twist. I resorted to cheap wine last night (not out of box).

I haven't been sleeping well this week. I awaken at 4:00 a.m., 4:30 a.m. or 4:55 a.m. I don't take any naps during the day and I'm usually up until 11:00 p.m. or so although I did fall asleep watching the news on Tuesday night.

As I told Running My Mass Off the other day, I am very distracted. There a few things weighing heavy on my mind and if one or two them would get resolved, maybe I'd be able to get a good night's slumber.

So. If you read my rant last night, sorry for the foul language that I used.

Changing the subject. In a previous post I mentioned The Heights Fun Run this past Saturday. I said how hot it was. Well, at some point after mile 2 I was miserable so I stopped and took off my shirt and when I did my sunglasses got covered in sweat. So I had to clip the iPod nano to my shorts and run with the shirt in my left hand and the sunglasses in my right hand.

A few days ago I was thinking, "I don't remember seeing anyone taking photos. I hope the camera wasn't between mile 2 and mile 3." Well...

I went to the website yesterday and rut ro! There are two pics of me without my shirt! Two comments:
1) I have a double chin like Lisa from Top Chef;
2) I don't have as big of a muffin top as I had imagined.

Still, I would have preferred no shirtless photos and no double chin.

So. My second apology for the day: Sorry for subjecting y'all to that!

Derby Day (May 3)

There is one day out of the year that I drink bourbon and it is on Kentucky Derby Day.

The past few years I have been invited to a private party to watch the running of the roses. Honestly, it's more about hanging out with friends and drinking Mint Juleps than it is about the race. The race doesn't take that long.

Well, this year the reigning Mr. & Miss Mint Julep are having a kick-off party for Miss Mint Julep 2008.

The party will be on Saturday May 3 at EJ's (2517 Ralph Street) and it will start at 200p. There is no cover to attend.

You can purchase $25 bottomless Mint Juleps. There will be a hat contest and a 50/50raffle. The Kentucky Derby will be televised at 500p.

So don your best Derby attire and big hat and join in the fun!

All proceeds from the event will benefit Legacy Community Health Services.

While I was indulging on vodka + cranberry drinks last night, I wasn't thinking about running this morning. I manned up and met him. Suprisingly, I didn't barf and my speed increased as we went along.

BTW...I am Customer Of The Week at my local office.

Received a box of goodies from LÄRABAR. They arrived on Friday.

Have quite a bit going on this week in preparation for Saturday's Krewe Ball. And yes, I know I owe an explanation and photos from Saturday and Sunday nights.

Need to get ready for a meeting!
