As I See It - 01.30.16 - Animal Kingdom

It was the return of the Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Party but before I could get my day started, I ran into these Polish treats at Kroger on Buffalo Speedway. One word: YUM!

This annual "party for a party's sake" was again, much fun. We had just under 1200 people so the crowd was manageable. Nothing like the 1500+ a few years ago.

In a Facebook message exchange with JD Arnold, I suggested he play some David Bowie...and he did...and he one of the songs was my favorite Let's Dance.

We've already set the date for next year but I'm not willing to reveal it just yet. Just remember...2016 was a short Mardi Gras season...2017 will be a bit longer.

Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Party: The Hottest Ticket In Town

Back in the late '90s, I was invited to a black tie, by invitation only, Mardi Gras party at Rich's (now known as Limelight). I didn't know much about it but the person who was able to get me the invitation made it very clear that I needed to be there by 6:00PM and I must be in a tuxedo AND I must have a mask. Well, not one to not follow protocol, I did as instructed and I was blown away.

I had so much fun and every year after that I made sure to get an invitation because the only way in is with an invitation. There were a few years that I wasn't sure if my connection would come through but it did. And rather than deal with the stress of not knowing if I would have an invitation, I joined the group!

It is by far one of the most fun groups I've ever belonged to and it is so much fun to throw beads from the stage and just have a good time for a good time's sake. It's not a fundraiser. It's just a party with 1,000 of my closest friends.

RECAP: Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Party 2014

I'm not bragging BUT I will say this was a fun party and I'm glad I was able to be a part of the host committee. The new interior at Limelight really played well into Science Fiction theme. I'm not a pic fan of SciFi. I thought about resurrecting my Killer Klown kostume from 2001 but I didn't want to have to deal with clown makeup all night. I REALLY wanted to do something from the Mad Max series but they're all grungy. (The only person who ever looked fabulous was Tina Turner as Aunty Entity in Beyond Thunderdome.)

We had 1,228 guests plus the 58 hosts.  Throw in some beads, a couple of dancers and top it off with alcohol and you have a fabulous party!

The Hottest Ticket In Town (?)

This Saturday is the Mystery and Fantasy Mardi Gras Party.  I joined this group a few years ago because I always had a fun time at the party...from what I can remember.

The party always has a theme.  This year it is Science Fiction.  I'm not a big SciFi fan so I'm opting for a tux with a mask.

The party is by invitation only which means you have to know one of the hosts.  Each host is given a limited number of invitations and since there are only 60 of use, there really are a limited amount of invitations.

Limelight's new decor fits perfectly into the SciFi theme.  Many of our guests haven't been to 2401 San Jacinto since it has been remodeled so they are definitely in for a treat!

Yesterday, I did a walk-thru with some co-workers of Limelight Houston.  I had not been inside 2401 San Jacinto since July 2013.

When I walked into the club, I think I heard myself say, "Oh wow!"

The interior of the club has been renovated and while it looks similar it is very different; in a good way!

This is a photo of what I call the tunnel.  It's beneath the new stadium seating.
